Shaun Tait, who signed for Durham last month, has arrived at the Riverside for his first stint in county cricket. Tait, 21, had a good Pura Cup last season, taking 33 wickets, and is on the fringes of the Australian national side. He was called into the squad for the Australian tour to Sri Lanka as a replacement for the injured Brett Lee earlier this year, though he didn't play a game, and has played for Australia A. He also attended a pre-tour training camp prior to Australia's cancelled Test series against Zimbabwe.
"I'm especially looking forward to playing County Championship cricket," said Tait. "My arrival here is particularly well timed as it enables me to get a head start on my fitness before the Australian season officially begins. It's the first time I've been to England so I'm delighted to be here, the Riverside is such a picturesque ground, and it will be great to contribute to Durham's promotion campaign."
Martyn Moxon, Durham's coach added: "We are really looking forward to Shaun making a full contribution to Durham's attack on the remaining fixtures. It's always great to sign a player with such visible ability." David Harker, the chief executive, also heaped on the praise, saying: "Durham County Cricket Club is delighted that it is able to bring a player that is widely regarded as one of the best young fast bowlers in Australia to the Riverside."
