Tait undergoes successful operation

Shaun Tait is expected to recover ahead of schedule from a right shoulder injury after successful surgery in Adelaide today. Tait, who was ruled out of the Super Series on Monday, had an arthroscopic operation to correct a cartilage problem and Trefor James, the Australia team doctor, was pleased with his progress.

"The injury was not as extensive as had been anticipated and he will be able to resume playing sooner than had been initially expected," he said. Tait was originally expected to miss three months and will undergo a rehabilitation program in Adelaide.

Tait was selected in Australia's one-day teams for both the Test and one-day Super Series matches following his steady progress in his first two Tests during the Ashes tour. Stuart Clark, who made his international debut in the Super Series match today, was called up for the limited-overs squad but Australia have still not picked a replacement for Tait in the 13-man Super Test outfit.
