Two New Nominees On Barbados Cricket Association's List
New Date, new nominations and new names
08-Oct-1999
New Date, new nominations and new names.
With the postponed annual general meeting of the Barbados Cricket
Association (BCA) set for Tuesday, the new list of nominations
shows two changes.
Businessman Al Knight is up for the position of treasurer, while
umpire and civil servant Hensley Robinson replaces Carl Power on
the board members' list.
Knight, who made sport headlines when he unsuccessfully
challenged Captain Peter Short for the BCA presidency, will try
to unseat Patricia Greenidge for the post of treasurer.
Greenidge, who last year became the first woman elected to the
BCA board, was the only person without an opponent when the first
list of nominations was released in July.
But that nomination process was rendered null and void when the
BCA failed to hold its meeting on July 29 as scheduled because of
administrative bungling.
The BCA went to court seeking a new date, but the court put the
matter into the hands of the general membership, which selected
Tuesday as the new date and reopened the nomination process.
The key contest is between president Tony Marshall and challenger
Sir Conrad Hunte.
Sir Conrad's supporters include nominees Stephen Alleyne and
Philip Nicholls, while Ken Hewitt and Knight have been linked to
Marshall.
Other nominees such as Keith Simmons and Jeff Broomes have spoken
out against the team concept.
The list of nominees:
President - Tony Marshall, Sir Conrad Hunte.
First vice-president - Stephen Alleyne, Ken Hewitt, Keith
Simmons.
