Ashley Giles rejoined his England teammates in Adelaide today and singled out one of them for special praise - Michael Vaughan.
Giles had to fly home from the Ashes tour in November after a delivery from Steve Harmison in the nets fractured his left wrist. Since then, Vaughan has scored three Test hundreds against Australia.
"He deserves it all, he's worked bloody hard and he has got the rewards," said Giles, who has kept in touch with his friend during his absence.
"He's very level-headed and I think he should enjoy it - I hope he can keep it up - because there are not many players in the world that can keep up the way
he's played over the last five Tests."
Vaughan is enjoying a week's rest during the resumption of the VB Series, to give some relief to his right knee which was operated on at the end of the English season.
Giles will not play in the first of the next two matches, although he batted for the first time since his injury yesterday.
"I just wanted to come back and play and get a taste of the Ashes, having
played in the first Test match and really enjoyed the experience even though we
got beat," Giles added.
"In the first 10 days I got home, my wife will tell you I was a real pain in
the backside, seeing it unravelling on TV really got my goat - I just wanted to
come back. I held out hope for a while but I knew in myself I was struggling to get back."
