West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

Telford Vice
15-Apr-2006

At Kingston, May 8, 2005. South Africa won by eight wickets (D/L method). Toss: South Africa.
The weather proved a more formidable opponent for South Africa than West Indies, whose big guns failed to fire against some canny bowling. After 30 overs, they were deep in trouble at 68 for six. A bright 46 not out from Browne - his best in one-day internationals - nursed West Indies towards respectability, though their chances of defending just 152 were slim. But Graeme Smith, whose six previous international innings included four hundreds and an unbeaten fifty, and Kallis went early and, when rain chased the players from the field at 26 for two after eight overs, the game was still open. When play resumed, South Africa faced a revised target of 124 from 33 overs and, thanks to 60 not out from Dippenaar, they had few problems getting there. He and Gibbs, in composed mood, shared 106.
Man of the Match: H. H. Dippenaar.
