West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

Telford Vice
15-Apr-2006

At Port-of-Spain, May 14, 2005. South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa.
After the spectacular events of Bridgetown, the one-day series returned to routine with another straightforward South African win. The monotony was only partially relieved by a doughty 85 not out from Chanderpaul. South Africa had restored Pollock to the leadership in place of the banned Smith. But even a ten-year-old plucked from the crowd would have been hard pressed not to guide the visitors to victory after West Indies meandered mournfully to a barely respectable total. At 61 for three in the 15th over and with none of the top three able to push on beyond 17, South Africa may have given West Indies a glimmer of hope. It did not last. Prince added an unbeaten careerbest 89 to four catches in the field, and Kemp clubbed a half-century as an unruffled South Africa won with 19 balls to spare.
Man of the Match: A. G. Prince.
