Yannic Cariah

A legspinner and a left-hand batter, Yannic Cariah grew up watching videos of Shane Warne and Brian Lara. Cariah has a quickish run-up and he gets the ball to turn and bounce. He made his T20I debut days before he was selected for the T20 World Cup 2022. Cariah hadn't played a T20 match since 2016, but West Indies lead selector Desmond Haynes was "very impressed" with what he had seen of Cariah, and named him in the squad.

Cariah was a late bloomer who first played international cricket at 30, though he had showed plenty of promise as a teenager. His List A debut came as a 17-year-old for West Indies Under-19, before he played the Under-19 World Cup in 2010. There he took eight wickets at an average of 20, and hit a match-winning century against Sri Lanka.

Cariah found it tough to break into West Indies' domestic sides, so he put more emphasis on his batting, before his first-class debut eventually came for Trinidad and Tobago in 2011. His appearances in domestic cricket were largely in the first-class cricket, in which he was the top run-getter in 2016-17.

Cariah played eight List A games in 2019-20, and captained West Indies Emerging to their maiden Super 50 Cup title, leading the way with an all-round show in the final.

Cariah's ODI debut came against New Zealand in Bridgetown only in August 2022. He even hit 52 from No. 8 in his second game to give the visitors a scare.
