2.3 to Azhar Ali, back of a length, maybe nips away a touch - and got him, caught behind! Azhar's return is brief and unsuccessful, feeling for the ball in the channel and he's gone for a duck. That's Bairstow's first catch as a keeper in Tests since Sydney 2014. 5/1 40.1 to Younis Khan, low full toss, on the pads, massive appeal, that looks very out, and up goes the finger! Younis goes for the review but it seems optimistic ... that's plumb!. 103/4 83.1 to Misbah-ul-Haq, Smartly taken at second slip. Good length and wide outside off, Misbah bites. He hangs his bat out and nicks it with Root stretching to his left, ensuring that Misbah doesn't have another century. 224/9 85.1 to Rahat Ali, Anderson and Broad finish with six wickets between them for 30 runs. Anderson dangles the carrot outside off, Ali wafts and edges it to fourth slip, where Mooen grabs it near his arm pit. 234/10
13 | 8 | 13 | 2 | 1.00 | 70 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
32.2 to Shoaib Malik, edged and gone! Massive wicket! A bit of lift on a good line, a loose prod too far away from the body, and Malik pays the price for flat-footedness. He had a let-off in the last over when the ball didn't quite carry, but Broad's got his man this time. 88/3 82.6 to Yasir Shah, The new ball brings a wicket. Broad lets rip a well-directed short ball. Yasir is in no position for the pull. Skewed to backward square leg off a thick top edge. 224/8

51.1 to Asad Shafiq, Patel finds the outside edge and success. Turn and bounce outside off, leaving Shafiq prodding feebly. Bairstow pouches it smartly and Pakistan find themselves five down 30 minutes before tea. 116/5 78.2 to Wahab Riaz, Patel sends Wahab back for a two-ball duck. Patel roars, two wickets in eight balls for Pakistan. Tossed up on a leg-stump line, spins past the crooked prod to tilt the middle stump back. 196/7
13 | 3 | 49 | 2 | 3.76 | 47 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
19.5 to Mohammad Hafeez, gadzooks, Hafeez has only gone and done it again! Aggression proves his downfall, as he takes the long handle to Moeen once again, finds a top edge and picks out Broad at midwicket, who pouches the catch and shakes the ball in his hands like a kid with a Christmas present!. 49/2 77.1 to Sarfaraz Ahmed, Moeen Ali strikes, having Sarfraz holing out to deep midwicket. Pushed through from round the stumps, Sarfraz throws his wicket away. Brain explosion this. He goes for one strike too many. Dances out and drags it into the lap of Joe Root. 196/6

42.1 to JE Root, Root fishes outside off again... and Sarfraz takes a brilliant low catch! Does he? The umpires are going to check but the replay quickly confirms it went straight into his right mitt - Root is gone! Rahat hits paydirt with a full ball angled across - Kryptonite to England's Superbatsman at No. 4 - and the edge was snaffled half an inch above the turf. 97/3 96.2 to JWA Taylor, slanted across, Taylor fences at it... and steers to the keeper! Sarfraz dives to take another excellent low catch and Pakistan have their fifth wicket! Always tricky getting started again and Taylor doesn't manage it, feeling for a ball that left him a touch. 228/5
36 | 3 | 99 | 3 | 2.75 | 158 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
37.2 to AN Cook, plays back on leg stump, short leg takes the catch... is there's some bat on this? Yes, says Gaffaney! Cook wasn't moving but he doesn't review either, looks like a small deflection off the inside edge as he tried to glance, on to the pads and into the pouch. Yasir gets his man again. 90/2 62.4 to IR Bell, Bell tries to come down the pitch, the ball turns past his bat - and that's got him, stumped! Bell couldn't get near enough to it, Yasir getting the ball to dip and spin and leave him in no-man's land. Huge wicket for Pakistan. 139/4 121.3 to SR Patel, bowled him, that's an absolute jaffa! That's plenty penetrative, far too good for Patel, whose hopes of a maiden Test fifty end with a crash of ash... Well, more of a tickle, actually, as a delightful legbreak pitches outside leg and then judders the top of off. Patel, understandably, befuddled. 287/8

103.4 to JM Bairstow, skidding on with the arm - bowled 'im! Brilliant stuff from Babar, he steadily tied Bairstow into a knot and then ran him through with the arm ball, he was trying to cut off the back foot but done for pace. Bairstow's gutsy knock comes to grief and the scales tip again. 245/6
9.5 | 3 | 33 | 4 | 3.35 | 40 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
8.4 to MM Ali, gives it some air, Moeen slogs across the line... and loops a massive top edge to slip! The opening partnership is once again too brief for England's liking, Moeen was walking off as soon as he hit this, as Younis backpedalled a few yards and steadied himself underneath the catch. That was a very ordinary shot. 19/1 120.4 to AU Rashid, he's gone this time! Rashid prods firmly, a very sharp edge fizzes out to short leg, and that is a brilliant low catch, scooped one-handed, diving to his right!. 285/7 122.6 to JM Anderson, beats the bat again, and hits off stump! Malik chips in with another, he got this one on target and Anderson played inside it, "pop" went the bails. 296/9 126.5 to BA Stokes, doesn't quite cover the line and he's bowled! Tossed it up and got the ball to straighten on off stump again. Malik ends with four-for, Stokes ends with a duck (though don't say it to his face) and England's lead is halted at 72. 306/10

39.1 to Shoaib Malik, massive inswinger from Anderson, and Malik is gone for a duck! Sharp reverse swing, maybe that scuff on the concrete was all the ball needed. Malik's bat is barely in the frame, he is so comprehensively pinned in front of all three!. 105/2 54.6 to Rahat Ali, bowled him, Rahat is kippered! Stuck on the back foot, Anderson lined him up and reversed the ball back precisely to nudge the top of off and dislodge the bail. 152/4
23 | 6 | 44 | 3 | 1.91 | 115 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
50.4 to Younis Khan, huge appeal! And Oxenford has given Younis lbw after a massive pause for thought! That nipped back a mile, Younis took a huge stride, well outside the line, but there was no stroke offered. The umpire considered his angles, and got it pretty close to spot on. Younis reviews but the top of off was being pinged out of the ground!. 146/3 85.1 to Misbah-ul-Haq, trapped him in front, Misbah falls for the bluff! The field had been set up for the short ball, with catchers on the leg side, instead Broad went full and straight and got Pakistan's captain in very similar fashion to the first innings in Dubai, standing in front of all three. 245/5 117.3 to Asad Shafiq, nips back and that's castled him, brilliant delivery from Broad! Shafiq had looked sound as a pound but that went straight through him, coming back a long way off the seam to hit the top of middle and off. Broad punches the air in satisfaction/exhaustion and England are one wicket away from setting off on a run chase. 354/9

88.5 to Mohammad Hafeez, oh dear, that wasn't very well thought through by the Prof! He's been caught at long-on! Tried to tack Moeen downtown but didn't quite get hold of this one and picked out the waiting fielder... England are battling to stay in this one. 257/6
29 | 3 | 97 | 1 | 3.34 | 113 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
109.2 to Yasir Shah, short, and what a soft dismissal! A loopy slapped cut, came straight off the toe of the bat, extra bounce, and Broad at point gobbles the offering!. 319/8 |

49.6 to AU Rashid, beauty! Perfect length on off stump, nipped back a fraction and Rashid's stumps are splattered as he plays all around it! A hint of reverse swing I think, but reward for a disciplined restrictive line. And England are all but floored now. 108/7

26.5 to JWA Taylor, got him, edged to slip, England four down and sinking fast! Babar goes skipping away in delight, he landed this on a sixpence and turned it enough to clip the bat as Taylor groped for it in vain, slightly angled bat and it was gleefully scooped up by Younis. 57/4 28.4 to SR Patel, gone first ball, another lbw! This is turning into 2012 all over again, England playing with their pads and Pakistan playing them like a flute. No reviews left, since Moeen and Bairstow used them up earlier and Samit trudges wearily whence he came. 59/6

11.6 to MM Ali, Onto the back foot, skidding into the back pad, that looks dead for all money, and the umpire agrees! But Moeen reviews ... it might conceivably be leg-sided ... but it is surely at least clipping ... or is it ... it is looking tight ... in fact, it is smashing leg stump, and off he goes!. 34/1 13.6 to IR Bell, a beauty from Malik! On the angle, around the wicket, held its line and Bell, playing back and expecting it to turn, has his stumps splattered!. 34/2 59.5 to AN Cook, down the track, through the gate, stumped by a mile! Shoaib saw him coming, dragged it down, and utterly flummoxed the England captain!. 150/9
17.3 | 2 | 44 | 4 | 2.51 | 76 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
23.4 to JE Root, fizzed through, Root goes back... and it's a fatal error, as the ball pins him in front! Root consults with Cook but they decide not to review, which probably tells you how adjacent he was, right back on his stumps and beaten as the ball skidded on low. What a huge wicket in the second over of the day!. 48/3 27.6 to JM Bairstow, pushed through, Bairstow sweeps and he's hit on the thigh, bang in front! Up goes the finger but he decides to review, this is the definition of blind hope and Hawk-Eye shows it to be thundering into middle stump! Another for Yasir and England are being ruthlessly shredded here. 58/5 56.5 to SCJ Broad, short, Broad sweeps again but the ball bounces on him and he can't keep it down! Square leg snaffles the offering as England sink ever closer to the exit!. 138/8 60.3 to BA Stokes, fired down the leg-side, Stokes goes for a wander, Sarfraz gathers and whips off the bails! That is the end of that!. 156/10 |
