Misbah-ul-Haq has become the latest captain under threat of a one-match suspension for maintaining a slow over-rate, after Pakistan fell two overs short of their target in the opening game of the Asia Cup, against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Misbah was fined 40% of his match-fee for the offence while the rest of the players were docked 20%, but Misbah will face a suspension if his side have another over-rate transgression in an ODI in the next 12 months.

Since the ICC made the rules regarding over-rates stricter, after their annual conference in Hong Kong in June last year, India's captain MS Dhoni has been suspended for both a Test and an ODI, while Shane Watson is also in danger of a suspension after Australia failed to complete their overs in time in the third final of the Commonwealth Bank series.

David Boon was the match-referee for Pakistan's game against Bangladesh and ruled that Pakistan were too slow in completing their overs, after taking delays into consideration. Pakistan fell behind the rate despite just 18.1 of the 48.1 overs being bowled by fast bowlers, and will have to be careful over the next 12 months to avoid losing their captain for a match.

If Umer Akmal takes responsibility then Misbah will feel ease and improve its speed.

i agree to you VOYAGOR but he should play each format to its merits. he always ruins the runrate in both shorter formats and at the last stage he starts hitting when we had already lost the match. it also not fair. its better to get out then sticking at the crease with a purpose or i better say hope of becoming a hero at the end. which is never happened.

Going by the responses of many posters it appears that they like the days of disgrace and shameful failures better than current times of respect and more stable success. My humble opinion give hime confidence and chance until T20 WC and then transition him out of all forms of cricket if there is no big test series in near future. But please do that with due respect. Not b/c of him but b/c or Pakistan's cricket and yourself as more than any thing we need stability. Criticism is fair game but disrespect to person and contributor like him is NOT. No wonder the non pakistani's are perplexed at the disparaging comments about him.

Wahab Riaz is one bowler who needs to be back in the side. Us Pakistani's are usually criticise a bowler who didn't perform well in one or two matches such as Riaz. If Riaz improved his ball technique and is insisting on not disappointing the captain, then why not bench ordinary Cheema since Junaid is injured. Umar Akmal should not go after every ball, he is the most important batsmen IMO. He can make hundreds if he doesn't be greedy. Misbah is very capable of hitting boundaries, he should at least try hitting some and to not entirely focus on not losing wickets all the time.

Ahhh...! Thats good, at least there is glimmer of hope that Misbah might get suspended for a match. Believe me there is nothing better to even replace Misbah just for one match. He is such a non-aggressive captain which is so not a spirit of modern day cricket. He can just smile over a loss with degree of cooooolness he possess.
