Four companies have shown interest in the PCB's initiative to launch an international Twenty20 league in Pakistan. A proposal to launch Pakistan Premier League (PPL) will be presented by the companies to the board next week.
"We have invited the companies to present us the plans," PCB chief operating officer, Subhan Ahmed told ESPNcricinfo. "We are thrilled to see the initial response but we have to sit and look into the modalities and feasibility of having such an event in Pakistan involving foreign players."
Ahmed said that international player participation was necessary for the success of such a competition. However, Pakistan has been unable to host international cricket since March 2009, when Sri Lanka's team bus was attacked by terrorists.
"I can't say that we are sure whether to play in Pakistan or abroad. But PCB has serious intention to hold the PPL. The situation definitely has improved and that is why the British [Universities] team is here in Pakistan."
Former PCB president, Nasim Ashraf, floated the original idea in 2007. While, the idea was scrapped later scrapped in Pakistan, similar leagues have cropped up in Bangladesh, Australia and South Africa after the success of the IPL.
"PPL was held back for several reason in the past, but this time we are very keen and serious on launching our league as an attempt to bring the international cricket back in the country."

T-20 Overload.. ICC should eliminate other T-20s, it messes up international schedules. There should be a limit of how much of this a country can be a host of or organizer. But then again, ICC appears helpless against the bigger money shaker cricket boards.
Posted byPPL will be a commercial success no matter what-the model is true and tested. The idea of having foreign players of Pakistani origin and some independent minded players from Scotland/Ireland is an intriguing one.
Posted by Malti65 on (April 6, 2012, 12:40 GMT)Good. Looks like Pakistan has finally learnt something from the success of BPL. Now you can expect to bring internationl players to pakistan. This should be the first step of bringing international cricket to pakistan.

Posted by Hassan.Farooqi on (April 5, 2012, 20:59 GMT)Folks. There is already a corporate sponsored tournament called Faysal Bank T20. Corporations bid on teams like Lahore Lions, Rawalpindi Rams, Peshawar Panthers, and Karachi Dolphins. This is a very successful tournament. All that is needed to be called it a Premier League is that these clubs be owned by a person or corporation, instead of an association. As for foreign players, there are a lots of Pakistani origin players playing for other countries e.g. Rizwan Cheema of Canada, Imran Tahir of South Africa, Usman Khawaja of Australia etc. I do not know why the idea of PPL came so late.
Posted by Ahmed00 on (April 5, 2012, 15:58 GMT)I don,t think that a tournament type league will be successful in Pakistan. Instead of a two or three week tournament; Pakistan should start a league for a whole season like English Premiere League of Soccer with less money and just local players. Just two matches in a week on weekends with one team must be playing at its home ground. People are tired of Stage Shows and Movies and believe me; everyone will go to watch the match on weekend and within two seasons this league will become a big hit. In fact, it will be a revolutionary change in Pakistan Cricket.

Posted by thePakistanian on (April 5, 2012, 0:37 GMT)My dear Pakistanis, please STOP this stupid discussion on bringing this news to front page or why this league should be/not called PPL? Doesn't matter if it isn't on front page, once launched everything will come on front! & names of league don't do anything! Let's just hope we have a safe, great & successful league that entertains everyone!
& I think 1 thing CRICKET in general is lacking, is an International League! I also get the point of limiting international players to give domestic ones a chance. But we need a World Premier League ( sort of)! In which every team picks whatever team they want, irrespective of which country the players belong! I mean no one asks Arsenal, Manchester Utd, Ac Milan, Real Madrid or Barcelona to put local players in their team! They pic the best they want! So IPL, BPL & this PPL r right to limit international players number but we need an International league! Like European football! & so we can have the best of the Best to play in one team & compete.
