Virender Sehwag has said that he was not aware that one of the reasons MS Dhoni wanted to rotate the three openers in the Commonwealth Bank Series was that Dhoni thought playing all three would cost 20 runs in the field. Sehwag captained India, in Dhoni's absence, against Sri Lanka, and he, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar played together for the first time in the tournament. Sehwag said Dhoni had chats with all three individually, saying that youngsters should get enough exposure in these conditions keeping in mind the next World Cup will be played in Australia and New Zealand. Sehwag said he was fine with that reasoning but was unaware that Dhoni had said, after the February 19 match against Australia, that he couldn't fit all three openers in a given XI because of their slowness in the field.

"No we didn't know that," Sehwag said. "I didn't know what he said and what's going on in the media. But we decided, we had a meeting, he chatted with everyone, with Gautam and myself and Tendulkar; he explained that he wanted to give chances to youngsters so youngsters can play all the matches here because the next World Cup is also here, so they'll get an idea of how the pitches behave in Australia."

Sehwag was asked if accommodating all three openers in an XI was not feasible. "I don't think so, we played together in the World Cup and we won games," he said. "We want to give chances to youngsters and it's good for every team to just keep rotating players so they will be fresh for the next game; so that's what I think [it is about]."

When asked about their fielding, Sehwag asked: "Did you see my catch?" and smiled. He was referring to the full-length diving catch he took at midwicket to send Mahela Jayawardene back. "We are same for the last 10 years. Nothing has changed," he said.

Sehwag was then asked if the 20 runs that the younger legs are supposed to save in the field are a good enough reason to keep persisting with then even as they continue to flounder with the bat. "You have to ask Dhoni again," he said. "What he told us is he has to give chances to youngsters; they will come here and play the next World Cup. That's what he told us."

Is he now going to have a chat with Dhoni? "Why should I have a chat with him? He is the captain, he is the leader; if he and the coach think we should give breaks to the top order, that's fine, I am okay with that. I don't have any issues with that."

Is Sehwag surprised at this apparent lack of communication? Shouldn't he now confront the captain? "I am available for all the matches. It depends on the captain and the coach, what XI they pick. If they give the reason that we want to give chances to youngsters and you take a break, I am happy with that."

In principle, though, Sehwag remains a supporter of the rotation policy, and said he had been advocating it for a long time. "I have been saying for a couple of years that we have got to rotate. Give more chances to youngsters because they will play more matches in the coming years. I told Dhoni before the last World Cup that if [Suresh] Raina, Rohit [Sharma], Virat Kohli play 100 matches they will get good experience so that they can fire at the right time. So it's good thinking."

On the surface, there seems to be a serious lack of communication in the Indian camp. After India win a game, Gautam Gambhir says the game should not have been taken into the last over. The next day, Dhoni says the set top-order batsmen should finish games off. There are various reasons given for the rotation policy, and if Sehwag is to be believed he has learned from the press that Dhoni thinks the top-order trio is too slow in the field.

Despite all that, Sehwag says the team is one happy unit. "We are one unit. We are very happy. He is the captain. He can say whatever he wants to say, and he has been addressing the media for the last couple of years. We are okay with that."

The people like Sachin, Dravid, Jayasooriya are the real barrier to the future development of any country's cricket and if a average cricketers like Koholi or Chandimal get the same opportunities they would get better runs than these fellows. The selfishness of Sachine and Santh as an example rued the wonderful talents like Badrinath and Kartik. God bless India Cricket if these selfish men decided to stay further. The value of people like Sunny, Murali, Warne and Anil are more special when compare with this old grand papas

Throw sachin, sehwag out of the playing eleven .If possible get a replacement for vinay kumar by picking praveen kumar,he is sidelined for so many days don't know why the selectors are resting him.Hes a perfect player in these kinda situations & a better batsmen than vinay kumar...& last but not the least pray for YUVI the genuine match winner

Posted by   on (February 24, 2012, 9:56 GMT)

Sehwag should concentrate on his game instead of media, Dhoni should respect the senoir players because sachin has done very for the Indian team instead of suresh raina. No doubt Dhoni is great captain in ODIs. Why he is showing partiality on Suresh Raina who did not bat well from the past 20 innings.Suresh Raina is a talented batsman but he lacks the maturity in batting even after playing 140 ODIs. Dhoni should think about Ravindra Jedaja too, Ravindra Jedaja is just like a part time bowler and part time bats man. There are many part time bowlers in the team who are professional in their batting.Among the young stars virat kohli and rohit sharma deserve the place as complete batsman in the team.Dhoni should concentrate on rotation of fast bowling because India lacks strength in fast bowling.

Throw Sehwag & Gambhir out of the team and everything will be all right...India will start winning again...If youngster are getting picked in the team then why everyone is opposing it,dont u remember the test series when seniors were not performing then everyone was saying that give chances to younger players...& now they r getting chances then everyone has been saying why they r getting chances..what is fault in playing jadeja, this guy is bowling full quota of overs+sharp fielder+not done well in batting..But what r ours openers doing in this series..Let them play only in India..They will start scoring centuries and double ton...before making any such comments they should start thinking about their batting...& sachin must retire after CB Series..I know he is a great player but everyone has to go one day just like pointing.....

It is obvious that the current crop of youngsters do not have the potential to reach the heights of Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman & Kumble - only exception being Kohli. However, they need to given the opportunities to ensure that India does not sink even further into the doldrums. As for fielding, Tendulkar may not be the quickest around the field but he remains India's safest fielder - he does not often drop catches (I've seen him play for many years but I have never seem him drop a simple catch - he has dropped a few in the slips but they are never simple there). As for runs, I still think Sewhag and Tendulkar are better than the youngsters even though they are out of form. Raina lacks the correct technique whereas Rohit is highly talented but lacks application and determination, I feel. Rohit is a batsman's version of Sreesanth!

The dissent in the cricket team is baffling and it is hard to believe that these are same guys who fought in unity just few months back for the WC.....I strongly feel that the new coach appointed for the team is incapable and uninspiring....I feel that Fletcher is behaving in the same way like Chappel did......and widening the already existing gulf between senior and junior players.I really miss excellent team management in Kirsten days when player used to fight with unity and come back strongly even when chips were down. In my opinion Fletcher should be immediately sacked........who can manage bunch of highly talented players........and transform them into winning team. I hope Black days of Chappel era will not repeat itself. for eg. Every time sachin comes to bat he looks in excellent touch....but poor man management is playing down on his mind and he is unable to take advantage of good starts...I feel faliure of sachin even in form is indication of mediocrity of Fletcher as a coach

Its so unfair. People talks about seniors all the time. 1. Dhoni can leave two chances of run out by not just follow the basic idea of standing behind the stumps when trying to run out.

2.Dhoni can let jadeja stand in the field and not bowl when rohit and raina can bowl, then why the hell we need him(Jadeja) for.

3.Dhoni can let jadeja bat before partiv patel(One of the former opener) can bat.

4. Seniors are not that bad in fielding when compared to vinay, ashwin, umesh yadav, Praveen kumar (all these young bloods).Sachin hardly drops catches. Look at the catch taken by Shewag.

5. What makes sense when a captain (Dhoni) drops the in-form player (gambhir) who scores two 90's in the name of player rotation.

6. Dhoni - Current age: 30 years 231 days, played : 67 test matches, 201 odi's, 30 T20 matches.

Gambhir - Current age 30 years 132 days, played : 48 test matches, 129 odi's, 25 T20 matches.

In what way does Gambhir falls under the Senior category and Dhoni not.

Sehwag should concentrate on his own form. In the last one year except for the 217 against the hapless WI, he has not delivered any performance worth noting. At this rate very soon he may be out of the team. He has chosen a wrong time to get into a rough argument with the skipper.

Posted by VinodGupte on (February 23, 2012, 12:35 GMT)

Dhoni likes Jadeja so much, that he is bending out of shape to play him in the XI. He is giving silly excuses to ensure that Jadeja plays. And even when Jadeja plays, Dhoni does not bowl him and use him as a specialist batsman. Hahaha. Dhoni does not know what he is doing. With Pathan in the XI as an all-rounder, what is the need to play that waste of a player, Jadeja?

as a fan of indian team...i must ve to say all of the supporter of team india...Has anyone performed even 50% of Sachin on the field??? Leave him alone, people. He knows what to do when. The 100th ton is just a hype created by has no significance what so ever...............really indian media creating all dis type of issue....enough is enough. let the team go their own way....................

Read the report carefully. Truth is that Sehwag thought seniors included SRT, VVS & RD only !!! He never thought he was also in the list !!!

Posted by Netai on (February 23, 2012, 6:43 GMT)

Seniors are really slow but not Sachin. He should take rest. Dhoni is a fast player he never be a slow player. Somebody says he's slow in batting. I think it's not yet. He is perfect in every stage. He is a great player. One player <Parthiv> has not ability to play matches in national team like India. It's not Kenia. If its Kenia he is a perfect player to play. But its india so he must log out. Al in al Dhoni the best.

there is no one is slow... dhoni just makeing exuse because jadeja shoud be not playing. look indian team until not they allways go with 4 bowler....and the 5th bowler is all ways shewag, yvaraj, rahina, or ysufa pathan.... so i dont thik jadeja shoud be in team....

Posted by lsnitin on (February 23, 2012, 5:32 GMT)

i am totally with dhoni on this one.. we won 2011 coz he took t tough call on dropping "un-droppable" seniors in 2008. and the result was there for all to see.. too many slow fielders reduces the intensity in the field.. it not just about 20 odd extra runs.. its about runouts, strike rotation, pressure building et al. and with the next world cup in huge australian grounds, india needs to invest in the future..on good fielders!

Posted by shacs on (February 23, 2012, 3:41 GMT)

What caused this mess?? to start Dhoni is losing his cool-head at times...and his magic touch is slowly deserting him.. The seniors did not budge when they should have during the test series and allowed a place/at least a game for Rohit/Rahane... which Dhoni/many feel was unfair... collective-bargaining /lobbying will eventually lead to poor results... The junior players had their opportunity in WI, but failed to capitalize and senior players like Lax and RD had to bail out Team-India. The whole Idea of grooming youngsters and assured places in the eleven for seniors are equally wrong... the players should be match-fit, mentally, physically and emotionally and International matches are not for practicing, improving or gaining experience. Cricket is team-sport. Dhoni is also guilty of keeping certain players off 'his-team' - not good for Indian cricket.

Whatever happens, who ever stays/leaves.. Cricket will be played/loved/ millions..

Sensible comment from @Kishore Krishnamoorthy. Everyone wants to talk about Sachin to get attention. Has anyone performed even 50% of Sachin on the field??? Leave him alone, people. He knows what to do when. The 100th ton is just a hype created by has no significance what so ever..

Posted by srkdon2 on (February 22, 2012, 20:53 GMT)

its not the three seniors who are slow in the field. its the bowlers who are pathetic fielders like ashwin, zaheer, umesh yadav, praveen kumar, vinay kumar. and on top dhoni is very slow in batting.he doesn't rotate strike and keep on wasting deliveries. If sehwag and sachin start playing slow they can make good scores every game.i bet Sehwag should take his time, play slow and score a big century. also Sehwag should be the next captain in all three formats.

welll welll!!!!!! i thnk the rotation policy that has been put froward by the BCCI is a gud exposure to the fast and bouncy pitches in Aus. for the youngsters lyk Kohli,Raina and Rohit Sharma. But i dont really agree 2 Dhoni's point of view for the openers....... coz... in the past few years they hav fielded quite up 2 the mark AND U JUST CANT LET THE TOP 3 EXPERIENCED BATSMEN OF UR TEAM OUT OF THE XI JUST BECOZ THEY DONT FIELD WELL!!!!!!!!!!! THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL.

As the famous quote goes " Either you die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain" I guess the same quote applies to Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar in this current series... people from all corners are gunning for him, Can he score 2 centuries in the next two do or die games and silence everyone??

@faizalai The hundred to which you refer to happened during the ipl which is not classified as international cricket. ipl=club cricket. As of now tendulkar has 48 ODI centuries and 51 test centuries hence the 99 hundreds.

Valavan-Well i have many friends amongst Eng cricket fans and i have always admired the constructive criticism of them .However i am sorry but you are being too critical here.Thats not an excuse or blame that anyone gave 40-50 runs, What Dhoni meant is that Sachin ,Gambhir and Sehwag are slow in the field and hence India will leak extra runs with all three of them in the team.Last time we won CB series here as we fielded well along with good batting and bowling.Dhoni was responding to question related to fielding, hence that answer.Three matches which we lost in this series was due to poor cricket, no excuses to that, but that is different issue,Dhoni never made the excuse that Sehwag or Sachin leaked the runs hence we lost, he was just talking about right team combination.

@ James Anderson,am an aussie and ofcourse i support my baggy green but it doesn't hurt to support good players from other countries as well. After all I like to watch good cricket.i like few players in Indian team like MS dhoni dravid and yuvraj.Same goes with SL team I like Sanga and muralidharan. They are all good players. So I don't bother any of the team coming to CB series finals, but it should be only with my team :)

@cricket_ftw : IT SEEMS YOU HAVENT WATCHED YESTERDAYS MATCH..Irfan is an average batsman !!!!!????? He wass only one Indian batsman who looked in fine touch..

Posted by Witty_Cricketer on (February 22, 2012, 10:19 GMT)

It is amazing how much criticism Tendulkar cops. People comparing him to Ponting and concluding Ponting was a better player because he was part of a team winning most matches etc., What they need to observe is Ponting has played in one of the best cricket team ever to have played. Tendulkar for most part of his career has played with a mediocre cricket team, yes there have been brilliant individuals in the team, but team as a whole has been pretty average most of the time.

Posted by   on (February 22, 2012, 9:55 GMT)

Tendulkar wants to win a world cup abroad I am sure. After he plays next wc he will say he wants to win a wc in England. That's how he is.

Posted by Pran001 on (February 22, 2012, 9:03 GMT)

Regarding Sachin: Sachin himself has stopped playing from ODI from last 2 - 3 years. He only played in World cup since that was was missing from his achievement list. This time he was forced to play ODI by selectors so that he can get his 100th hundred. And Sachin obliged. Otherwise Sachin himself has no interest in ODIs. And now that the selectors forced him to play, he is out on rotation. Stange.....there is no oneness in thinking between selectors and Dhoni...

Posted by cricket_ftw on (February 22, 2012, 9:01 GMT)

SRT looked comfortable all the time in the series .. but his time is not good in Aus... raina i think has been given enough chances ... let him sit in the bench for few games ...

Posted by cricket_ftw on (February 22, 2012, 8:33 GMT)

India cannot afford to play irfan and jadeja together .. . Should play only one of them ... Both are mediocre bowlers and very average batsmen ... Should always go for a specialist bowler or batsman ... Buts its sad that there is no specialist bowler available in the bench for india .. all bowlers look completely useless... .

Posted by Valavan on (February 22, 2012, 8:10 GMT)

Comon Indians, its not India for you to score big and pose like WWE superstars. If you dont adapt, its just yourself to blame, No one will give pitches so that sehwag can carve past point, or ashwin can deliver an effective carrom ball as he does in Chennai, Learn and adapt and justify, rather blaming he gave 45 runs, she gave 50 runs, When Indian washed England in India by 5 - 0 in ODIs, every innings was sheperded by Dhoni, regardless but this is not India, OZ especially hilfy have worked out Dhoni, He won once, tied once and failed once, which shows IF YOU FAIL TO PREPARE THEN PREPARE TO FAIL. All excuses given by BCCI, MSD and fans are just unwanted waste of energy. cricinfo please publish.

While one can understand the frustration and dismay of the fans at the consistent and inexplicable failures of the Tendulkars and Sehwags, all this talk about youngsters doing better puzzles me. Who among the h"youngsters" has stood up to the task of shepherding the team to victory in the last six matches? Excepting Doni, who is not a so called youngster, no one has shown the appetite to hang in there and finish the game for us. Not Rohit, not Virat, not Jadeja not Raina. Are these guys really that good? Obviously not. I am not sure Manoj Tiwary will exactly set the series on fire. I think we need to go deeper here. 1) Losing the toss consistently and batting under the lights has not helped us. 2) The anger against Sehwag is, he is throwing his wicket away. Sachin is clearly finishedy 3) We have always done well after we got decent starts. We have not been getting them. 4) Excepting Rohit, none of the young guns are international class 5) India needs to prepare better pitches

Posted by Liontamer on (February 22, 2012, 8:03 GMT)

I dont know why these out of form people keep clinging to their spots and drag the entire team down with them. Legend or not, if you are out of form, you sit your ass down. Sehwag needs to be benched. We can keep Tendulkar on, because he is technically as sound as it gets. But he needs to play further down the order. It is too much of a psychological blow when he gets out early. Gautam is good for 40/50 runs , so keep him and let Rahane open with him. Drop Sharma and plug in Tiwari or Parthiv. We need to find a top order batsman whose job is to hold the fort down at one end and not worry about scoring runs.

Team: Gautam, Rahane, Jadeja, Kholi, Sachin, Tiwari/Parthiv, Dhoni, Irfan, Ashwin, Zaheer, Umesh/Praveen.

I am sure many would agree with me..the perennial problem of Indian team is weak bowling and inconsistent fielding... and now club it with shoddy display of batting (once its strength) team can win matches in such did the Indian team allow the Aussies and SL to score close to 290..90 to 100 runs in the finals 10 overs...Indian fielders dropping catches, missing run outs at crucial moments...above all a benevolent gesture to a team that does not deserve it..they bowled a no-ball to deny Sehwag a century..where was spirit of the game then? Didn't Ashwin warn Thiramanne once before taking of the bails when he repeated the act of leaving the crease before the ball is why give him any have to have killer instinct to win..Indians lack if they did not have an urge to win..they wanted to be noble on a platform where there was no need..if you spare an inch, opponents will capture acres...and more over no need to give unnecessary statements..

Posted by   on (February 22, 2012, 7:31 GMT)

To all the media, Dhoni orginally said the reason for the rotation is to give youngsters a better exposure to the Aussie conditions keeping in mind the next world cup. It is only during a post-match interview when a reporter asked if Dhoni think an additional senior batsman at the top could have given India an extra 20 runs. Dhoni replied, there is also a chance that senior players may give away 20 runs during fielding as Aussie conditions demand quicker legs unfortunately senior players do not have. It is totally fair what Dhoni said. It is the cheap media which is now trying to create a confusion into this. Dhoni has been a great captain after Kapil and Sourav, I am sure he can handle this situation better.

Posted by Pathiyal on (February 22, 2012, 7:30 GMT)

these are things to be spoken within the corridors of the team management or even the dressing room, not in a press conference. when will our captain and players learn the basic etiquettes? generally agree with ms regarding most of his opinioins but disagree with him for making it public...the media are just desparate in every country and who knows it better than him! ms should at least not follow viru's methods of talking.

Sehwag says that they are the same and that they have been winning games for India.True but look at how many matches they have in and out of India. He should look at his performances in and out of India. The truth is the Indian batsmen including Sehwag generally speaking are struggling with the hard bouncy pitches in Australia. When they go back to India they including Sehwag will "beat"the bowling as they generally speaking are flat track bullies!!!!!

Posted by DINESHCC on (February 22, 2012, 7:26 GMT)

A player who is part of Oz team with more than 100 wins, a captain who won most matches for his team is out of their ODI team merely because of 3 failures. His name is Ponting. A player who is part of Indian team with more than 100 losses during his tenure, as a captain, lost almost all the matches, is still in the team for scoring single digit runs. His name is Tendulkar. When our selectors will wake up?

@Nampally, In the same match the so called specialist bowler has given 48 runs in 5 overs without a wkt. In 3rd match with Aus, He kept out frm bowling coz Dhoni thought he will be hammered again? C'mon.. this is unfair analysis. Why hav u ignored the 2nd match where he has given only 50 runs for 10 ovrs, where the specialist Aswin gave 47 runs. Both without a wkt. u mean to say, a captain will consider the performance of previous game or the one below it? and are u forgetting the series with WI? He was the highest wicket taker and with a better economy and avg than Aswin.5 matches - 9 wkts - 4.36 eco. where as Aswin.. 4 Mat- 4 wkts - 4.90 eco. Who is btr? Even in yesterday's match his economy is btr than Aswin and Irfan. Dhoni told on many occasions he needs a good bowler who can bat. Irfan's economy rate is poor compared to Jadeja.

Posted by MDCP on (February 22, 2012, 7:10 GMT)

I am Srilankan but as a follower of cricket, I think Raina, and Rohit have been given enough. They shud try out manoj tiwary. Jadeja is a huge failure wit the he playin purely bse of his bowling and occational hitting?? then he is not gud enough to bat at 7... sehwag will never learn but i think he will cum off that or if not selectors shud replace him permantly... but it sounds like a serious rift within the seniors in the team!!!

Posted by CandidIndian on (February 22, 2012, 7:06 GMT)

Sehwag was failure in SA tour, then he failed in most of the matches in World cup, followed by king pair in England, poor test series against WI ay home and extremely poor test series against Aus.Good fielder or not he deserves to be dropped immediately, funny thing is that he is vice captain of the team, what a joke Indian cricket has become.

The effect of test series disaster still appears to be hanging. Parthiv Patel, Jadeja, Sehwag, Sachin and Umesh need to be rested. Try the following team. Gambhir, Rahane, Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Raina, Ashwin, Dhoni, Zaheer, Irfan Pathan and Praveen Kumar for the remaining matches. Let us see how these guys will perform.

Posted by Sunil_Canada on (February 22, 2012, 6:30 GMT)

Sehwag, please play responsibly. You know on your day you can do it alone for India. And we want you to have those good days more often. Best of luck. Sehwag should not be thrown out as senior as he is still much younger. Most of the time juniors are giving way to accomodate seniors, it should be reversed.

Posted by Sunil_Canada on (February 22, 2012, 6:23 GMT)

Captain, Vice Captain should ensure to maintain the discipline within the team. They are talking too much. There is no need reply to all the questions of the media who are always looking for headlines. Rain or shine, Indian team has always believed to be disciplied. Please don't worry about defeats in the recent two series (it's after all a game), India will bounce back. Sachin is one of the greatest cricketers world has ever produced but he should take a break if he is out of form and should retire once he completes 100th 100. He could still make runs comapred to new-comers but let youngsters get a chance or else we will lose a lot of talent. I believe Rahul, VVS and Sachin should retire sooner than later. Sehwag is out of form but he is still young comapred to others and on his day (hope that day will come soon) he could win matches alone. If Dhoni is in the scheme to play in WC, he should continue till next WC, he is still good. Tiwari, Rahane, Pujara, Aaron should get more chances.

Posted by VinodGupte on (February 22, 2012, 5:22 GMT)

to those who think that rahane should be played - ajinkya rahane is in india. he is not part of the ODI squad. we have only three openers in the squad - SRT, Gambhir and Sehwag. Pathan can open but he is not a regular opener. face it : give the "form" of indian batsmen, SRT is the second best opener in the team right now.

The media is always known to sensationalize issues to increase readership. In fact, some insignificant things get blown out of proportion only due to misrepresentation by the media. We need to be more careful about making opinions based on what we hear from press conferences. Journalists often tend to put players in a tight corner asking some questions and then distort the answers out of context. Rather than commenting loosely on what we see, hear and read; we must first analyse at the matter at hand from different points of view.

I am astonished to see Manoj Tiwary still sitting out. We have better batsmen in Inida than Rohit Sharma.

Jasonpete, if you are not an Indian or one of its supportes then why should you worry about them mate? I have read one of your comments in the past about the SL team in a very similar fashion. I am neither an Indian nor a Sri Lankan, but I wholeheartedly support SL. Lets say you have a good heart towards these 2 teams.

Posted by cosmos_kapil on (February 22, 2012, 5:05 GMT)

Previously also I commented that India always seems like a bunch of men performing their 9-5 duty hours anyhow. That again proves right. Whereas with match against Australia we saw how Zaheer was unavailable for the last 10 overs, and to supersede this is yesterday's game where I think first time in the cricket history we saw two non-regular bowlers bowling the last two overs. Are they went their for a joke? On one hand we saw how SL captain used the quota of his spearhead bowler while on the other we became option less at the end. If there is shortage of bowling why these Raina's and Kohli's over being filled in between? Also in Indian cricket it seems to be a new trend running where name is defeating the game. Big name seems to stay their regardless of performance. How a leader inspire others when he himself in not capable of delivering. Actually they want shuffling instead of rotation in batting and bowling order. Poor Pathan, his skills wasted.

@ashok....still I dont understand why people are telling India won the world cup because of sachin...He was d motivation...agreed 2003 and 1996 world cup belongs to sachin but he couldnt bring the last piece...In 2011 WC a large chunk of runs Sachin made was in non winning games only...CREDIT GOES TO YOUNG INDIA only

It is unfortunate that little skirmishes in the dressing rooms or some comments made with good intentions are blown out of proportion by the media. The 'experts' on the TV channels given the opportunity to hog the lime light make uncharitable and demoralizing comments on the individual cricketers who are still in the midst of a series. The pressure created to perform, forces them to commit more errors and the results are what we see, ignominious and doleful. Sure, there is no excuse for Sewag and Tendulkar to fail so consistently. Tendulkaar should have retired voluntarily or dropped by the selectors after the world cup; but, the lure of a record bade them to hang on with him. After over 10 or so innings Tendulkar is sliding from bad to worse. Considering the fatigue factor with so many matches played, it is time to consider a plan to retire or drop players at the age of-say 36 for Tests ( less for other formats) or lack of performance , whichver is earlier

@ Kavum: I fully concur my friend, you are spot on! Exactly how I feel whenever I see the sensationalism take over true journalism on new media. Wonder if you are also someone in Media like me, as we seemed to be a few who realize this game played by the so called journalists. I know you are a SL fan & like me who do feel for the "real" IND fan. Most times they are played like violin by the media. Indians are very passionate people. They love their gods, music, movies & cricket & thus been exploited to the max by media. They create half the issues in their team, & fans are gullible to believe everything broadcasted. In a way we shouldn't be that surprised about all the melodrama around IND team either as it's almost like watching a HIndi movie. There are Heros, Villains, Jokers who come out to entertain the public. When the hero falls they burn him, but also quick to forgive & forget. Like most SL fans we want IND to do well, minus all the drama & bullying the fellow subcontinent teams

@Maduwantha I agree with you I m also a sri lankan and I also says please indians dont do this, we made a same mistake with aravinda, you should be more concern with raina, jadeja and gambir. Even though they are not old they cant handle the pace and bounce, all three of them looks clueless on fast tracks. BCCI should rectify that, SL also had this problem earlier but SL cricket did make some pace and bounce practice wickets and you can see the result. This was done way back in 2009 after they lost the CB series in australia.

Posted by Mitcher on (February 22, 2012, 4:45 GMT)

In Australia we have a track athlete named Jana Pittman. Due to her inclination to be involved in soap opera type incidents all the time, she has come to be known as Jana Drama. Surely the Indian cricket team deserves a similar moniker. These guys just can't stay out of trouble.

Posted by csowmi7 on (February 22, 2012, 4:39 GMT)

at the moment India is playing terrible cricket. Unless we win our next two matches we better pack our bags and skedaddle. No excuses. Sri Lanka and Australia are playing much better cricket at the moment. Our batsman are woefully out of form, our bowlers are failing miserably at the death and our captaincy is second rate. Also our team selection is absolutely mind baffling. When your two best bowlers in Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar sit out and Raina and Jadeja are being given an extended run despite terrible performances your team is bound to lose. Sad to see this once great team go downhill so fast after such a successful world cup.

Posted by KiwiRocker- on (February 22, 2012, 4:38 GMT)

Sehwag is a flat track bulley who has won nothing of note for India. Sehwag is a poor fielder and so is the case with Tendulya and Gambhir. Tendulya should learn something from Ricky Ponting..But then again Indian selector lack courage. Tendulya was the reason for Nayan Mongia's career being ended and now is blocking promising career of so many youngesters...Suresh Raina is a sitting duck againt fast bowlers but atleast he is a fine fielder...What exactlt irfan Pathan has done? His poor spell cost India badly....These are tried testd and failed players. India's main problem is their bowling and it has been for a while. Indian fans over hype mediocre bowlers like Ashwin who end up disappearing. Sehwag should concentrate on his fielding as Dhoni has alone won more matches than him and Tnedulya together. Sehwag has poor PR skills as he once commended negatively about B'desh team that motivated B;desh and they thrashed India out of WC 2007! Never disrespect your opposition..

Posted by mrgupta on (February 22, 2012, 4:21 GMT)

Total batting failure. I know Sachin failed yet again but he looked good and did not struggle. All he needs is a bit of extra luck which seems to have deserted him for now. The way he was playing Malinga I am sure he will be scoring big in the later part of this tournament. Its Sehwag who has been the big problem. Ever since he scored that 219 in ODI he has stopped scoring. Rohit Sharma has been given repeated chances but has an avg of about 15 in 5 games in the tournament so far and with Raina avg at 22 we need to think ahead now. Manoj Tiwari needs chances now over Rohit and please please play Irfan Pathan regularly. He is taking wickets and the way he batted yesterday he could be the key to India reaching final.

Posted by kitten on (February 22, 2012, 4:11 GMT)

Sehwag, Tendulkar, and Rohit Sharma should be left out until their form improves. Manoj Tiwari for God's sake, should be given a chance immediately. Parthiv Patel should be inserted in the middle order(he can't be worse than these above three gentlemen). Praveen Kumar should come in for Vinay or Umesh. Dhoni has spoken rightly. Tendi, Sehwag(one fluke catch does not make him an agile fielder), and Gambhir are slow in the field, and in these short formats, runs are of paramount importance. Too long, people have bowed down to past reputations, and players are still persevered with. The selectors should take a leaf out of the Australian's book, and start cleaning up, and the sooner the better.

Posted by   on (February 22, 2012, 3:59 GMT)

We have given enough chances to Raina , Rohit ,kholi. But they are playing like 20 20 cricket...Just got a start of 30 0r 40 and due to poor short selection got out. These guys are good in fielding but not a good finishers yet to prove that .The good finishers of our team till date are Yuvraj and Dhoni. If India needs to win matchs means they young legs should be in the crease for whole 50 overs..

These all youngsters are not yet ready for Test cricket inorder to replace Dravid-Tendulkar-Laxman trio.

I am a Sri Lankan. Don't forget Schwag and Sachin are the only players who have scored 200+ in ondayers. They have entertained all of cricket lovers. Both of them are in a lean period. I am sure they try there level best to overcome it. As fans and as human we must understand there position. Please don't insult them. We did the same mistake with Aravinda. Our expectations are high. But they can not always meet it. But I believe quite lot cricket left with both and we will never see such players again. Let them overcome. Fans, BCCI and Median shall help them to improve their moral. Not to let them further down

Congratulation SL team. This was a disappointing performance from the Indian team. The failed batsmen keep on repeating their performances. Shewag need to be rested for the remainder of the series. Raina and Rohit Sharma need a closer look in whether they belong in the playing eleven. India will lose nothing in giving chance to Manoj Tiwari at this point. He is decent fielder too.

How irresponsible sehwag can be?when team needs to chase 290 ,he just gifts the wicket not one time but nth times.Even though I don't support Indian team nor am an Indian, looking at sehwag batting, any captain of the team will get frustrated.Gambhir said the match should be finished by 46 overs, today what happened the match was over before 46 but the result India all out. Here in Australia, every player is equal in 11 member team but in India, they treat seniors like stars and even though if they don't perform for many times, they still continue to play by not making runs.Today match they were really missing dhoni who can hung in there till last to make runs and finish the game.some post about ganguly ,but under ganguly with same players, they still were not producing good results.Current problem with Indian team is everyone looking out of form and jaded. They are missing the characters like yuvraj Singh and harbhajan. There is a pole apart with the team who performed in world cup and now.

I think MS Dhoni has played some great knocks in this ODI series, I am really surprised to view some comments on MS Dhoni. I think its very very unfortunate to read and hear all these comments about a very fine captain, extremely vigilant keeper and an fantastic batsmen and finisher. Its Sad to read such absurd comments on the Indian Captain. AND The sehwag Dhoni issue, I do not see any Issue in this as this is media hyped. I strongly support the Indian Skipper MS Dhoni his decisions and policies.

Posted by   on (February 22, 2012, 2:29 GMT)

You are lucky to have a talented, cool nice gentleman like MSD in your one day team. He is the captain so he should be given a chance to select a team for his liking.

Neil Shah is absolutely right.I have said Sehwag should have been dropped a long time ago for being oblivious to the team's interest. We all saw his 2nd ball duck yesterday. And,yes the commentators are overlooking his lack of application for the sake of the team. Anyone who says" this is the way I play, take it or leave it" should be sacked on the spot!

Posted by CricOr on (February 22, 2012, 1:55 GMT)

Wondering? Dhoni should also be among the players being rotated as he is elder to Gambhir and played more matches than Gambhir. Also wicket keeper is also a fielder who will be responsible for the 20 runs and more, like catches, stumping behind the wickets for which a youngster will be better. Why Dhoni not among the players who are being rotated cause wicket keeper is as important as a opener and Gambhir is younger to Dhoni by age and experience

It is a good time to give chance to manoj, rahul. My choice of team sachin/sehwag, gambhir, kohli, rohit, manoj, raina, dhoni, irfan, praveen/zaheer, rahul/aswin, vinay.

Posted by   on (February 22, 2012, 1:11 GMT)

I think Team India should go with new/talented team. It's not about old or youth. When we carefully observe Indian team won 2008 CB series with a lot of new faces and oldies. Every one was determined to win. We can see that determination in new players because they struggle, they dream, they perform, and so they excel. That's what we are missing now. They really need a charge, a strong determination.

Posted by Nampally on (February 22, 2012, 1:02 GMT)

Dhoni has no choice but to go with his top 3 batsmen for the remaining 2 games. These 3 have to produce for India to win! He has blown a commanding position of making it to Final. Now India has to win the next 2 matches- one each against Aussies & SL. They can beat SL if he cuts out his favourite guy Jadeja for a "Specialist" batsman or a bowler. Economical wkt. taker Rahul needs to be in XI. Alternative is to go with 7 batsmen . Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir,Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, Ashwin, Pathan, ZAK, Praveen/Vinay, Tiwary/Rahul. Rahul bowled well on a rain affected restricted game albeit he dropped 2 catches +1 wkt.of his own bowling. He gave Aussies lot to think with his spinners & is a wkt. taker.Ashwin needs a good spinning foil at the other end. Playing either Tiwary or Rohit is gambling without knowing what you get. It is upto Dhoni to select the right XI.The rotation of top 3 has done more harm by unsettling the batting & not letting these guys get in form. What will Dhoni think of next?

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 23:53 GMT)

wow sehwag proved again to selectors why he should be dropped from odi squad, its funny how nice the commentators are to sehwag saying he is a dangerous batsman. i cant find one reason to keep sehwag in the team anymore, but every reason to let him go i dont mind if sehwag plays in IPL go make your money man but please stop hurting my country performance and Tendulkar, dont worry even if your out of team, i am sure Indian selectors will give you a chance in a test match in India to fulfill your dream. kohli can open with gambir, or we can play rahne and gambir. AND AS FAR AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLAYERS ON INDIAN TEAM, IRFAN PATHAN, HE ONCE AGAIN PROVED WHY HE SHOULD BE IN INDIAN TEAM. he obviously took two games to adjust in conditions no indian batsman can whole tour, and hes a bowler and batman, how can you ever drop a player like him. jadeja i was a fan of but he needs to work on his batting, his fielding is the best part of his game, but maybe tiwari needs a chance now instead of h

@Ganesh Sachin, what you are talking? During given chances Sachin or Shewag scored centuries, fifties ? No one is playing consistent cricket except himself. It sounds bad now but it is going to give fruits during world cup. Have you watched test cricket? The so called match winners never saved at least one innings. My only question to Dhoni is why Tiwari who scored century in his last match still in bench? I am happy dropping Shewag, Sachin. They are not going to play next world cup.

Posted by Dubious on (February 21, 2012, 23:29 GMT)

What Sehwag calls "how the pitches behave", I call cricket. About time some of the Indian team learned to play it, instead of the Mickey-mouse game they play at home.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 23:22 GMT)

The Indians really need to get some lessons from the Sri Lankans on how to play in bouncy tracks. The Indians appear to be strong enough on flat tracks in the subcontinent, but very weak when the ball is bouncing or moving. May be BCCI can come up with some new regulations to stop the ball bouncing or moving too much?

Posted by spinkingKK on (February 21, 2012, 23:07 GMT)

I am in full support of the rotation policy. Best still is, to rotate and throw out Sehwag and Tendulkar completely. That way, people can't complain about the rotation. Tendulkar seems to play alright, but fails to convert the start. But, Sehwag never really looked like he is going to score any runs. He hates making the scorers work. Whatever it is, India should just play Gambhir at 3 and Kohli at 4 every match. That means, Gambhir shouldn't be part of the rotation. Sehwag and Tendulkar can rotate. One won't bother scoring anything and the other will give us a good run rate for the first 4 overs.

Posted by npse on (February 21, 2012, 22:24 GMT)

Dhoni must do some self introspection on his own performance as a captain and a wicket keeper that has being pathetic at best. All his favorite youngsters have performed as dead wood. Jadeja is an embarasment, Raina cant touch bat to ball and Rohit Sharma looks as if he is still in sleeping mode.

This Indian team has no future and all their records made on dead Indian wickets must be scrapped, they are all paper cricketers.

Posted by Nampally on (February 21, 2012, 22:15 GMT)

@cricbee: Jadeja gave 41 runs in 2.4 overs against the Aussies in his first game without taking a wkt. He was kept off the bowling against the Aussies in the third match because Dhoni might have thought he will be hammered again. In short he was taken just for batting when there are specialists batsman like Tiwary benched! In the 2 matches against SL he bowled at 6 runs over & 5 runs/over without taking any wkts. As a boweler he did nothing. In batting his scores were 11,18, 3, 17. Pathan after being rejected in first 4 motaches has played in 3. He got wkts. in each match 1,3,2 & scored runs coming after Jadeja. In his last 2 innings he got 23 & 47. Who is better in all rounder spot? Pathan by a mile. On the other hand Raina is a better player than Jadeja both in batting , bowling & also in fileding. Rahul is a very good leg spinner & googly bowler who is quick & economical wkt. taker. So he should be automatic second spinner.

Shewag should be on a plane back home. He has played wihout any responsibility, leadership qualities and logic. He keeps repeating the same mistakes. The problem with Indian cricket right now is that non performers like Shewag, Tendulkar, Raina and R. Jadeja keep getting picked in the team. What is Tiwary sitting on the bench? What about Parveen Kumar? This bunch of Indian Selectors are the worst I have seen.

Posted by kabe_ag7 on (February 21, 2012, 21:14 GMT)

Rotation is primarily being done to give some experience to younger players. As a side benefit, you get better fielders too. What's so incendiary about that statement? Isn't it generally true anyway? "Shouldn't he now confront the captain?". Why didn't some media-person ask "Shouldn't he now punch the captain?". Man what's wrong with the media.

The game was lost when the team management selected Sehwag and Tendulkar. Having said that, I am disappointed with the performances of the middle order - Raina, Jadeja, Pathiv - they haven't been firing. I suggest it is now time to dump them and replace them with the next group waiting on the bench.

Dhoni seems to be intelligent enough to rotate himself also and throw Sehwag under the bus at crucial junctures. My guess is, he strategically goes slow while bowling and excuses himself from a game. Nice way to rest himself and throw surprises at Sehwag who is oftentimes more mercurial than methodical. This proves him more suitable for the job versus Sehwag because Sehwag is proved a joke on most occasions. There is definitely some undercurrent going on.

Posted by Front-Foot-Lunge on (February 21, 2012, 20:37 GMT)

India have proved themselves one of the slowest, unfit teams in the history of cricket, one of the gulfs between them and England in the recent test series they were whitewashed in was the Indian players' level of fitness.

India should select all the young cricketers and have them play few tests and one day matches with bangladesh. Why they are giving chances to older players who were playing only for personal records.

Communication issues? Typical of these new media "journalists" trying to create dissension and controversy in the India team so that they can spur on imaginary problems to write more nonsense about. You push some line to players under pressure to elicit a inflammatory reaction which in turn gets an adverse response. It blows up, affects the team and your theory then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. At what cost? No one cares to read what you "think" if it is going to affect the performance of world beaters like SRT and Viru and solid batters like GG. Since Sehwag usually speaks his mind, this would have seemed a golden opportunity to stir up trouble. Seems he came through it well. If MSD spoke to the seniors and they are happy, what business is it of some keyboard-happy tabloid-ist hack to keep harping about? Suggest you let the world champs do what they can do - play competitive ODI cricket - and then report on what you see, not sensationalist fantasies of strife and disharmony.

problemmmms........ I sense infighting. The indian team doesn't looke settled and there seems to be a rift between the so called "CAPTAIN COOL" and the senior members of the indian side. If India doesn't settle this, then this surely is doom and gloom. I do agree with dhoni about having too many seniors in the side. He must go foward and ask them to retire. Tendulkar should, Sehwag has a lot of time and is as old as dhoni and should play for the next world cup, he's also a very crucial player(can win a match single handedly if he fires) Gambhir is still young and is one of the consistent indian batsmen. It doesn't mean that if he doesn't score hundreds that he is bad. Getting 90s and a hundred is almost similar. Whatever happens they should settle this soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT IS TIME TO BENCH SEHWAG. I AM SEHWAGOLOGIST. BUT I think someone in bcci has to tell him to play for the team. What is the use of hitting the ball in the air when he is going to get out. He is not entertaining crowd or contributing to win. He is ZERO in captaincy or leadership. His batting is awful in australia. Someone has to tell him that if u going to get out , play percentage game like sachin does last 10 years. He is most talented batsman in the world , but he is not using his skills properly. He is still amateur mentally. Not professional at all. He needs to play mistake free game. Out think opponent. At present he act like a dummy. It seems like he is unaware of his ability in lots of things. He has incredible skill in batting , awful in captaincy or leadership. Great in teaching skills not in leadership. Leaders are born if you ask me. It is very difficult to make leader because energy imbalance. Skills can be learned not leadership.

a big blow to indian fans with all the talks before the match

Posted by SriLankanLions on (February 21, 2012, 19:17 GMT)

@ Ashok_893,,,Couldn't have said it better. There are so many innings that prove Dhoni is a selfish player. He's not the player some people claiming him to be. But who cares. Let him be the hero and take India to nowhere.

Posted by MaruthuDelft on (February 21, 2012, 19:13 GMT)

This is the team Dhoni built. This is why he has to be removed. He won the WC and others with the team built by Ganguly. The reason is Dhoni has scant respect for playing the game the proper way and accepted standards. Just look at his batting. It is so odd. It works for him but it is so odd. It relects his methods and choice of players. Example; India's best and proper spinner Pragyan Ojah is not playing. Spinners who don't spin are in the team. They may do well in India but in fair cricket conditions you need proper spinners like Ojah, proper fast bowlers like Zaheer (when opposition see Vinaykumar they will grow in confidence) and proper batsmen like Tendulkar. Players like Dhoni, Sehwag, Raina..who found shortcuts to succeed in home conditions should never be selected.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 18:53 GMT)

rotation policy is a stupid idea in this series coz the 3 top order batsmans are match winners if anyone click in a match it gives us a positive result, ok as per dhoni he give chance to youngsters but except kohli no one is performing in this series and i think lack of english communication DHONI speaks all the major things in media so avoid tat and dont spilt the team.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 18:49 GMT)

statment of dhoni is bad of india. I agree youngster are more better filder but it means not remove seniors. any team in world need combination of expirince and young in any king of game.

Posted by cricbee on (February 21, 2012, 18:46 GMT)

@Nampally, ur comments on Jadeja's bowling performance does not sync up with stats. At present he is one of the best economy bowler in Indian team, bettering Ashwin(a specialist bowler) many times. I agree that his batting is not giving any benefit to India and the reason is he comes very late in the order. Other than that I see nothing wrong in his selection. In case of Raina, I second u.. Tiwary should be given chances.

Posted by guan on (February 21, 2012, 18:38 GMT)

here at cricinfo almost every one praise dhoni, but he is main culprit for tie game against sri lanka. you have 10 over, 59 run, 6 wicket. but what are you doing, just not able to rotate, same match u made 3 run out. he was so defensive in west indies in 3 th test, when asked to make 75 run in 15 over.he reaming bastman raina, kohli, dhoni himself, ALL are T20 expet. still dhoni best??? he is up the order , when india had been chance of winning, but last coming when it is difficult . take the look , the t 20 match when india won, he was up in order. but in other , he was last. if he want time to settle down, so please please come at no. 4, then it is better for him & team india also. please publish cricinfo.

Posted by cricbee on (February 21, 2012, 18:33 GMT)

I admire on majority of occasions how MSD explains the logic behind his decisions . But this time he might have confused between the reasoning and excuse. His comment of slow fielding is appeared to be more like an excuse and it seems he started experimenting with Press. If I am a Captain, I will choose a batsman based on his batting capabilities, not on his fielding capabilities. Fielding comes into picture only when their batting is approximately equal. He should have better limit his logic to 'giving chances to youngsters' rather making controversial statements that disturb team harmony.

Posted by cricketindau on (February 21, 2012, 17:58 GMT)

sehwag is unware why he is still in the team.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 17:55 GMT)

The so-called seniors of Indian Cricket have showed an amazing inability to do anything to trouble India's opponents. All they seem to be doing is managing media well to ensure that they retain a place in the team....for doing nothing. I would rather have Rohit Sharma & Manoj Tiwary play for India & score 20 runs, than have a 38-year-old Sachin do that. Unlike Sachin, at least - Rohit & Manoj have a future. Hopefully, Dravid & Lakshman are history now.

Sachin - insists on showing off his power by holding on to the openers' slot when he can't score. He cannot be held guilty of sharing his experience with Rohit / Raina - the oldie manages to get out before any of the youngsters come in to bat. Message for Kohli / Sharma / Tiwary / Raina - you have to make your own mistakes & learn, Lord Tendulkar has refused to help you with his experience. If I was Srinivasan, I would simply recall Tendulkar for being a bad example to the team.

Posted by jeep on (February 21, 2012, 17:49 GMT)

It is amusing to see supporters of other teams (especially Pakistan) in all kind of garbs asking Dhoni to be removed. Just confirms that Dhoni can single handedly win games. He has done an amazing job leading the Indian team and should be given the freedom to select the eleven he wants to play for any game.

Duncan Fletcher should go, he has not contributed an iota to the team if the batsmen keep making the same mistakes after spending over a month in Australia. The coach's job is to refine the players techniques for playing in specified conditions and he has clearly failed. Some of the blame lies with the batsmen also as they are clearly not learning and the youngsters are not grabbing the opportunity they have got by the horns.

Posted by zico123 on (February 21, 2012, 17:49 GMT)

why is media trying to put salt on wound, why is media trying to pick lines to create a raft between players in the team. Team should be happy unit, only then they can win matches

Posted by amilag on (February 21, 2012, 17:43 GMT)

It is quite evident that there is a rift between senior players. Management, selection committee, board should interfere and clear the team about the future plan and vision. Tendulkar should be given a good farewell and Laxman, Dravid also. Better to loose one or two games in lieu of brighter future like Sri Lanka, Australia did.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 17:41 GMT)

In my view.. Dhoni is a gud captain... But he is not the gud team selector.. Why always Ravindra jadeja? i don knw why??? but i wonder why dhoni says, "I dont play with 3 seniors together"... If Yuvraj comes back,, will he say the same thing "I dont play with 4 seniors together".. its not fair.. Dhoni should remove jadeja.. and give more chances to irfan... Sehwag will be back with gud form.. So both dhoni & sehwag should be in the team... Dhoni shuld avoid saying such things to media... Sehwag & gambir too...

Posted by Nampally on (February 21, 2012, 17:17 GMT)

The Captain & Coach are a major problem for India. After playing 6 ODIs, India still does not have a settled XI whilst SL have settled right from first game itself. The team has lot of internal problems such as present lack of communication between top 3 batsmen & the Capatain Dhoni!.Jadeja & Raina are Dhonis favourites & keep playing whether they produce or not.Rahul Sharma is kept out of the team due to irrational preference for Jadeja as the second spinner.A spin bowler has to turn the ball & keep the batsman guessing.Jadeja keeps the batsman guessing whether to hit him for 4 or a Six!.In last 3 matches he failed to take a wkt & his highest batting score of 18. Irfan has proved hinmself a better #7 than Jadeja.Replace jadeja with a specialist bowler like Rahul or a specialist batsman like Tiwary. By rotating top 3 bats, Dhoni unsettled their form too!.Only Kohli performs in middle 3!.Even Ashwin has to give way for Sir Jadeja. A captain should be uniting, not dividing the team!.

@JustOUT "India won world cup just b'coz of dhoni". Are you kidding? If there weren't Yuvi & Sachin, India wouldn't have reached the knockout stage. Hitting the winning run by 6 doesn't mean winning the world cup. Even Gambhir played an important role at the top. Overall it was the Team India won the world cup. Dhoni always a safe gamer. Otherwise he wouldn't come in ahead Rohit & Raina if he really thought to give chance to youngsters. Dhoni won the matches which was already won by the top order. He comes down early to increase only his average when the game is safe. Otherwise he would play a blinder when the game is nowhere. He isn't that brilliant like most thinks.

Posted by Hraig on (February 21, 2012, 16:56 GMT)

Why these three should not play. How the hell you can call Raina a youngster just due to age regardless of fact that he has played more ODIs than Gambhir due to this fact he is a senior guy in the squad. He is more experienced than Gambhir in ODIs. What they are discussing in dressing room is disgusting Rohit has already an experience of 77 matches and Kohli already of 80 matches. So they are thinking of providing 100 matches experience it means that they are to be dropped for the next 2 years to achieve only 100 matches experience. The disgusting fact is that INDIA is a world champion team and they have forgot it. They should have at least played like champs for 2 years winning every tournament and bi lateral series ( ODIs) with the best possible team regardless of their ages and experience.

I think lots of things has got to India. They don't look like a settled team. There cannot be smoke without fire and this rotation thing has left a lot to be desired. Why would you talk about the next world cup now. There's a long way to go, and Sehwag and Tendulkar surely will not be playing at that time, and if they do... God save India..! Look at Australia selection, Ponting has to go and he got to go "there is no sentiment in Elite sport" (John Inverarity). I don't know when will India selectiion or their ailing senior players will understand that. All credit to Sri Lanka, a team that was written off and even rediculed as a no challenge team in this tournament. Its always better to be a humble underdog than be a boastful topdog.

Sehwag should quit cricket of all formats at international venues. Sachin should stop ODI cricket and concentrate on test cricket for a year and then retire.. These two have definitely become old and their eyesight is so poor that they cannot judge the ball. Please retire and give newcomers the opportunity. Enough players are available. Or board should take tougher steps. Not only them Raina and rohit need to go as well as they too are having flaws in their techniques. Dhoni should quit as test captain and concentrate on onedays.

dhoni is the best captain !! u can see how he was soo determined in tht sl game to win the game and atlast he got a tie then in tht aus match he won the match by finishing it !1even in today's match though sehwag is the captain dhoni was soo running in to the ground to carry the drinks and motivate raina and kohli !! dhoni is a wayy wayy better captain thn sehwag.sehwag always panicks when ther is an big total to chase so does sachin most of the times.its only gambhir, kohli and dhoni and raina who always put up an fight while chasing !! thts the fact.sehwag is only gud when he bats in 1st innings if india bats second sehwag is an walking wicket !!!

gambhir would make a greatt captain especially with his knowledge on the game and his aggressive field sets are a sure win for india.

kohli and ashwin and bhajji can be gud captains if they stay for a longer run.

yuvi and sehwag arent tht gud at captains !

india is missing yuvi very badly .replace rohit with manoj tiwary !!

@ varun and james..lolzz.. Dhoni just play for him self..Just make 30 runs in 55 balls and then just slog with few balls and then he will reach around 50 but its too late.. like 1st T 20 in this series.. U know both last 2 matches.. Dhoni was almost making india defeat,,but it was malinga Who gave chance to Dhoni when he was almost run out. Other wise game was other match clark does the same thing.. It was again almost dhoni made india near to defeat but it was stupid Clink Mckay who just bowled loosner to Dhoni in lost.. even Ashwin can hit for six fr0m that kind of ball.. it was totally Mckay stupidity..if there would have genuine fast bowler instead of Mckay..the match was over.. So its just luck.. only luck..other wise dhoni was making india near to defeat by wasting so may balls in starting..

Dhoni should be removed from team, he is spoiling team spirit. He is crossing limits in making statements. Look at the way he is smiling when India lost. Indian Top three are doing gud, Gambhir made 2 90's Sehwag scored double 4 matches ago, what else u expect. Dhoni is bringing unnecessary rotation policy in place. He should be rotated out and thrown out

Posted by sandunk on (February 21, 2012, 16:20 GMT)

Well its easy for Dhoni & other people to judge when Dhoni is the one scoring, while remaining players (including the seniors) not scoring. But I have followed games for many many years, and that is not how you approach who is removed from team and who to keep. These seniors are reliable and proven players for a long period of time, eventually they will fade out but to kick them out just because they haven't scored in last few matches isn't correct. After all how many youngsters are scoring (barring Kohli)? Dhoni needs to learn how to respect, cause he may be scoring at the "moment" but we all know he goes through long lean patches. You dont have to look far, how about test matches recently?

I do believe the youngsters should be given more chances as they are the future of our countries team. The point to be noted here is that the timing of rotation policy and the way the dhoni has executed is totally wrong.I do believe dhoni is a great capt untill he brought this rotation policy and ofcourse it will be injustice to blame dhoni alone for this policy and who all the members of management has supported him should also be blamed for this division in the team.We the indians are proud to see the unity in our country team but the way things are happening due to rotation policy is just too sad and i wish and pray this policy should not effect our future unity of our team. Our cric expert gavasker has also agreed dhoni is wrong by bring the rotation policy.I think one fine morning dhoni got up in the morning and realised he is the real captain of indian so thats how he started using his powers as captain and saying what ever he want and doing what ever he want.

Posted by Lakshmana on (February 21, 2012, 16:03 GMT)

There is so much disagreement and disunity in this side - and this I believe is a key reason for the team underperforming currently. Everyone is pointing the finger somewhere else and the ego of players like Dhoni, Gambhir, Sehwag is not allowing them to admit they are making mistakes!

Posted by udayankk on (February 21, 2012, 16:03 GMT)

Can we not focus on "he said, i heard" issues and instead write about the recent dismal performances of the team and hold them responsible for it? It's no secret that many of our players suffer from hubris and have a patronizing approach towards the game and their fans. We should be writing stuff that compel them concentrate on their game and win matches instead of pitting them against each other and making things worse. I don't care if the players have ego issues with each other, it's a given in any team related sports. Our players are representing our country and their job is to win matches for India. Let's hold them to that.

Posted by abhi54321 on (February 21, 2012, 15:55 GMT)

According to me all of team members must play club cricket in non Asian countries instead of playing in IPL. This will help them to get acquainted to the foreign conditions. Instead of arguing on who said what, they should focus more on their games. The main root cause of all these problems is the under performance of the team collectively as well as of the individuals which has led to the downfall of the current team. This fiasco on Australian tour has given air to the rumors that there is rift in the current Indian team. I think in my opinion the team as well as management should focus on performance from every individual rather than on the policies of management or board.

Posted by Sankara on (February 21, 2012, 15:54 GMT)

I am happy to note that the team is a happy unit. Why should not they be? They are all economicallywell settled. For the fan who walks into Wanhade stadium in Mumbai, it is a probably a day's wage they are foregoing to watch these guys. having said that, I think there were positives out of today's game. Pathan needs to be encouraged as an all rounder-he is useful as is jadeja and Ashwin. 50 over game requires these kind of players. For the remaining matches,I think between Sehwag and Tendulkar, one has to go. Get Parthiv to open, did he not do better than either in England? Patel, Gambhir, Kohli, probably Tendlya or Tiwari, Sharma, Pathan, jadeja, Zaheer (what is the problem with him?), Ashwin, would like a left rm spinner next (where is Ojha- has he been sent back?), jadhav would me my playing 11 for next match. About time that the team started to win consistently.Dhoni has been left out though he is today a better keeper than Parthiv for his Shastri like starts to batting

Why are the selectors still dependent on the seniors I respect Sehwag, adore Sachin but they are in poor form let them take some rest find some form and return... I dont understand the following : a)Why Tiwary is not given a chance? b) why do they still rely on Sehwag or Sachin? c)why jadeja is still in the playing 11 lots of why..?Untill there would be rifts in the team selection.. are they blind or players are selected by recomendation...?

These players are the best we have, they are sheer world class.... all are gullible... Sachin should score his century even if it costs India a match and retire or give way for the youngsters. We cannot force him to go out after all the things he did for Indian cricket all these years so Lets hope that Sachin scores the 100 and gives chance for another player. Surely the current openers are not going to make it to the next World cup so their time is up sooner or later. wow what a joke, Sehwag did not know. That means he is not reading newspaper or seeing after match press conference. Whatever, rotation policy will never allow any player to settle down. India has worst test series and no player has settled down in batting. Whereas Australia is kept on changing players and almost all the players are doing well for them. India should stop experimenting for this series because only 2 more matches are left and India is in danger of not reaching the finals. Even though India win there next 2 matches there is no guarantee that they will qualify for the finals. What Dhoni said is not right about Sehwag or Tendulkar. They are better fielders and never seen them dropping catches. What young players gained out of this series, I did not understand.A Rahane and Tiwary were never tried. When Rohit Sharma failed in the last match,it is because of Australia and Sri Lanka have better bowling attack compared to India. So, this must be put in mind and team must selected

He came out and said a totally different story to the press, trying to side track the seniors. Whether Dhoni succeeds or not with his political tactics, to suppress the seniors in the team, is yet to be seen.

IPL is not a Cricketing event it is a worst commerical event. Team India and BCCI is completely focussed on IPL. Because of IPL, Team India is losing skill, inspiration, motivation and fitness to play Test Cricket. These curators, coaches and BCCI officials are working for IPL growth rather than Cricket growth. Until IPL is thrashed, Team India is not going to perform well in other tournaments. IPL is completely meaningless and obsolete Tournament. Test, ODI & T20 Cricket is great to watch between Countries unlike IPL Teams which look like clubs. Test Cricket is ultimate to watch on sportive pitches. But IPL is making these pitches Lifeless.

@Vinoth Mahadevan: Sure lets remove Dhoni who is easily India's best finisher after Yuvraj. Lets have Sehwag captain since he is the most reliable performer at the moment as he never wastes any time or balls. He returns promptly to the pavilion and every once in a while he will play a cameo or a century. This is cricket not a bout of gambling.

Posted by   on (February 21, 2012, 14:49 GMT)

@vinoth & lakshman: Why the hell should Dhoni be removed, have you been watching the last few games? I think the rotation policy should apply to players that are under performing, like Sehwag, he should be dropped. Until some else gets a string of low scores then drop them. Gambir is in decent form in the last 5 games so he should play. Tendulkar should play next match, and Sehwag should sit out for his duck he got tonight. (He was also a poor captian). Dhoni is the best player in the world in this format and almost the best in t20. There are players just as good, but no-one is better at doing what he can do.

I am sure several such things will come out. Id they were performing well these things wouldn't have come out. Same top three were doing well recently. And whats this that Dhoni says one thing to media and something else to these three. I am shocked. I think Mr Cool is loosing control.

I think media want to see some fight, so that they will have their headlines. They can make up anything they want. Same Dhoni said 'Sehwag would like to finish the game in 25 overs'. Why no body talked that ?. Move on...

There is definitely something going on between Sehvag and Dhoni. Both must resolve the issues between them for the sake of team. I think this tournament is slipped from India's hand as top twos will be picked on the basis of no of wins and if it equals bonus points will decide and it also equals net run rate will. In any case India is far behind. And above all these there is a fight of views between Sehvag and Dhoni. In my personal views Sehvag can never be a good choice for captaincy. He is foolish in bowling changes. There are also some points with Dhoni's captaincy but those can be corrected as our batsmen start performing from top.

Sometimes I think the media are only looking for ways to stur trouble.

That's the typical sehwag... remove dhoni from captaincy he is not worth a place in the team...
