'I just have to be patient' - Manoj Tiwary

ESPNcricinfo staff
  shares 50

Manoj Tiwary, the middle-order batsman, remains positive despite again failing to find a place in the India Test squad, at least for the first two games against England.

Tiwary impressed during India A's match against England last week and through his limited international opportunities, but he said he wasn't letting the disappointment of being left out set in and is hoping to keep pushing his case through performances in the Ranji Trophy.

Tiwary got the selection news during tea on the fourth day of Bengal's Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan and he said that although the news bothered him, he was focused and in the right frame of mind for the next game.

"There were a lot of thoughts that came into my mind when I came to know about it," Tiwary said. "But we've quite a few games coming up. I always try to motivate myself by thinking that I have a lot of time. I am young, and touch wood, things will fall in place. The big runs will come. I just have to be patient."

Last week, Tiwary was the top-scorer for India A in a batting line-up which had at least three contenders for the No. 6 batting spot. Yuvraj Singh, who scored an aggressive 59 in that game, got the selector's nod ahead of Suresh Raina and Tiwary.

"It's a part and parcel of any sportsman's life. I've taken it in a positive way and in the right spirit. I love playing for Bengal. I'm a firm believer that day is not far away when things will fall in place. It would be a dream come true if I get to debut at the Eden."

He is the most deserving of the current crop of the next in line. He should be included in the 3rd & 4th tests

I feel for Manoj T. He is the most deserving player to be included in the team. I am not sure why the new selection committee made this mistake of overlooking at Tiwary. I would have preferred him over Harbhajan. Harbhajan is not that effective anymore and if there is no place for a mediocre performance then why was he selected. It seems that the cheif selector is not able to move on and try out new generation of players yet,

Hang in there buddy. The tide is turning against SRT. After SRT gets clean bowled by Anderson and company a number of times, he will be dropped. That should create an opening for Manoj or Badri.

  • Al_Bundy1 on November 7, 2012, 20:19 GMT

Hang in there buddy. You will get your shot. Keep performing in Ranji Trophy. At the end of this series, 10dulkar will finally be dropped from the Indian team due to non-performance. Also, one of the 2 - the poker or the flat track bully, will be shown the door for non-performance. So there will be 2 openings at the end of this series. You or Badri should get one slot, Vijay, Rahane, or Dhawan should get the opener slot.

Ya dear. You will get in soon i hope. You could have atleast been brought in as a spinner instead of the so called 406 wickets turban wala. You would not have gone wicketless in any match for sure. Past glories don win any was for anyone. You are the present performer. You deserve a place. Probably this is you best opportunity to perform well and knock the door of selectors loudly

Its been almost 8 years that no 6 slot vacant, after 2005 controversy between ganguly and chappel, slot vacant for 2005-2007, again ganguly came back and server till 2008, In those 2 years and after 2008, lot of batsman getting chance youraj, kaif, raina badrinath etc, but if badri got chance for long run then should never be a problem look at the averages at domestic level, badri- 63, Manoj- 59, Rehane- 62 and Score more than 15 centuries, and its is not that they had played less games, and look at the others average in first class who got more chances youraj, raina, kaif -Mid 40 and centuries count not at par. Figure shows that there is no doubt Badri, Tiwary, Rehane are the better batsman then youraj, raina in the highest level. Its very hard to say its over for Badri, which should had been a great performer for the Team as he is in 30s and not considered in long time run, but chances should be given to Tiwary and Rehane, who are at their par age, this is the only time.

leave sachin alone, y'all! i don't care if he is 50, if he is putting up the numbers - which may i point out to y'all, he still is! - then he needs to be in the *test* squad, on performance alone! we are talking test matches herein. i don't care for the selectors to be messing around with the likes of a "talented" rohit sharma or suresh raina, after pushing aside sachin purely because of his age!!! i mean, only one of those three can face up to any opposition! ...and might be able to do it better at 50 than either of those two are able to in their 20s! so... please stop with the bull that sachin is holding up some "talented" youngster's spot! he ain't! i got no qualms with rahane, pujara, sehwag, kohli and tiwary playing *around* sachin, though, in whatever position, but leave sachin at #4 in tests until his numbers begin to drop over a year!!! the dude is averaging 50 the last i checked in tests and is hitting hundreds too! so... get your jollies getting rid of dhoni or someone else!

  • satish619chandar on November 7, 2012, 2:31 GMT

He is the most unluckiest guy i have seen. Badri and Rahane were in very good form but never had opening to break into the team. Now Rahane has a slight opening with bad form of the openers. But Tiwary inspite of opening available in the team with the picked No.6's not doing their job that well, had to wait. His ODI career is in too bad shape. Losing out spot to consistent under performing Rohit is the worst thing a man can see from close quarters. If Rohit si talented and deserves "N" no of chances on failure, does the team mgmt think Tiwary is talentless and scored runs by fluke? It is a insult to one's potential and kilingl of form this guy is in now. Thank god. I am not Tiwary else i would have retired in mental stress.

  • on November 6, 2012, 23:00 GMT

I think that the right decision has been made since even if he would have been included in the team, he might have not been included in the playing 11, thanks to the tactics of MSD. Hence, rather than sitting out and getting rusted as a 12th man or play as a substitute, he will be playing for Bengal in Ranji. Btw well said Tiwary, you will get a chance to play for India.

  • Cpt.Meanster on November 6, 2012, 21:10 GMT

CANNOT believe this man is sitting out of this series !!! Way to go Mr. Patil and co., you have increased my faith in your new selection committee !!!! Way to go !

  • Alexk400 on November 6, 2012, 20:07 GMT

For me with his strong body build he should score many centuries. Unfortunately with all the skills he has , i find him mentally weak. But i want to see selectors to give him chance to play TEST when he is younger than old like badrinath. We need to give chances to people below 23.

  • usernames on November 6, 2012, 19:43 GMT

@InsideHedge - On fielding, and purely fielding alone, he is *the* best in the entire Indian team. No one comes close. No one. I'm still baffled as to why he gets to sit out for ODIs. Tests is understandable--he could be in the squad but that would be futile--but ODIs is beyond any explanation. You simply can't keep carrying the liability that is Rohit Sharma expecting him to showcase his talent at least once to guarantee another 50 odd matches. The kind of backing he gets for his not-so-apparent skills is insane.

  • HURRICANE.Sehwag on November 6, 2012, 18:08 GMT

The future test team has to include Rahane, Badrinath, Tiwary, Kohli, Irfan pathan and if possible, Rayudu. These players are too good to ignore.

  • on November 6, 2012, 18:01 GMT

viru, gambhir, dhoni, yuvi, all these 4 are all 30+ and not far away from being dropped and sachin is not far away from retiring. they will be tested against england pace battery and swan, best spin bowler next to ajmal. so lot of spaces are going to open up in indian test, odi and T20 teams. all youngsters will get their chances. they just need to keep performing. even zaheer is on the verge of being dropped because of poor fitness all the times. so all bowlers will also get a chance. just do well in ranji tropy and you will get chance. all the best.

  • mgr125128 on November 6, 2012, 17:25 GMT

Tiwary ,Rohit, Pujara ,Kohli ,Rahane, Chand, Mandeep are India's batting future

  • magzrossman on November 6, 2012, 17:24 GMT

I love MT's attitude. Hope he gets a break soon or else he will go Badri's way. Badri comes in to bat for CSK when the top order fails and has delivered in those situations. He could have been groomed into a solid test player but never could get in due to heavyweights in the middle order. Same case with MT now except that it is not heavyweights in the middle order but heavyweights in the selection committee that are a thorn in his side!

  • Nampally on November 6, 2012, 17:06 GMT

I like Tiwary's mental approach. Do not be despondent & show them that you are great batsman when ever you get your chance. I think Tiwary will be in the last 2 Tests. The Selectors definitely were totally unjustified into selecting 2 or 3 players with nothing to support their selection. Harbhajan is the top of this list, whose inclusion is totally illogical by any means. Tiwary even as a part time leg spinner (forget his batting), is far superior to Harbhajan. Such thoughtless selection is a major cause for poor performance by the Indian Test team. The Selection panel screws up the squad & Dhoni adds his screw up to the final XI!

  • miyabhaifromhyderabad on November 6, 2012, 16:15 GMT

Well, someone whisper in ears of so called GOD OF CRICKET to retire, the guys like Manoj Tiwary are being forced sit on bench or waiting for der opportunities..The GOD OF CRICKET is in catch 22 situation now...if he retires now, ppl will blame that all these years he played for records(infact true) and if he still continue playing den the opposition bowlers will not allow him to score TONS :P ;)

  • passionatecricbug on November 6, 2012, 16:13 GMT

Just hope that he dosen't become another Badrinath :(

  • Triple_A on November 6, 2012, 15:43 GMT

It is absolutely ridiculous that Tiwary does not merit a solid run in the ODI team. Someone needs to tell Dhoni to screw technique and talent and play the guy who IS MAKING RUNS. DHONI HIMSELF HAS TERRIBLE TECHNIQUE( HE HIMSELF ADMITTED SO), BUT IS STILL IN THE TEAM JUST SO THAT HE REMAINS IN CONTENTION FOR THE IPL. IS HE PLAYING ROHIT FOR THE SAME REASONS? There is a limit to everything. Having said that, I do think the selectors did the right thing by not selecting Tiwary in the Test squad. He would not find a place in the XI and anyways, Rahane is ahead in the pecking order in case an injury does hamper the original XI. This way, he can play the Ranji, build on some solid performances and hopefully take part in the ODI series.

  • binojpeter on November 6, 2012, 15:39 GMT

Manoj Tiwary is another good Test prospect. Has good technique and temperament. Hope he will get a look-in shortly in the future.

  • Raj12345 on November 6, 2012, 15:18 GMT

You are next Badri because there are whole punch of waste people has to be experimented Yuvi, Raina etc. So you never get chance in test for next 5 years. Sorry this is bad.

  • InsideHedge on November 6, 2012, 15:15 GMT

Lots of folks promoting Ashok Dinda on these pages. I'm afraid I just don't rate him, I see him as another silly billy who thinks wearing a headband and jumping as high as he can just before delivering the ball will make him a superstar.

It may look good but you're picked on performances. The few times he's played for India, his lack of pace, inability to swing the ball has convinced me that he will not succeed in the long term. He's also consistently injured.

  • InsideHedge on November 6, 2012, 15:13 GMT

Good attitude from Manoj, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities. There's so much cricket being played, given he's young and capable in all 3 formats, he's correct in concluding that it's just a matter of time.

I'd like him to also keep working hard at his bowling, and particularly fielding skills, this will give him the nod against his challengers.

Poor Tiwary, Dhoni is showing interest in Rohit Sharma for one day games. Tiwary needs a permanent place in the Indian team. Dhoni is a lucky captain, not good as Ganguly he got good players to win Matches. Except for the World Cup final where he proved himself, just once !

  • usernames on November 6, 2012, 14:36 GMT
