Satish set for Vidarbha move

10

Ganesh Satish is set to move to Vidarbha for the 2014-15 domestic season because he was disappointed with the opportunities he got with Karnataka in the previous season. Satish had scored a century in the Ranji Trophy final, which Karnataka won by seven wickets.

"I think I didn't get a fair run in the last season, so there was uncertainty about my future," Satish told ESPNcricinfo. "I thought moving out and playing as a professional was the best thing for my career at the moment. Hope it comes off."

Satish, usually a No. 3 batsman, was pushed down the order by the Karnataka team management during their first triumphant Ranji Trophy campaign in 15 years. He was also dropped for the quarterfinal and semifinal, before returning for the final and making a hundred against Maharashtra.

"Basically, I couldn't play in my position for most of the season. I had to bat at No. 7 in quite a few games," Satish said. "And even after scoring a hundred in the final, I didn't get a good run in the one-dayers."

Satish said he decided to move after discussing the issue with Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Brijesh Patel. "He was very supportive and advised me to stay on. In the end, considering the stage of my career, I thought it was best to get a consistent run with a team in order to bring out the best in me and decided to move on."

After his debut season in 2008-09, in which he played only three games, Satish scored at least one century in each of his next five seasons. He scored 2445 runs for Karnataka in 66 innings at an average of 43.66.

"I am sure it's going to be a completely different challenge to play as a professional," Satish said. "Expectations would be a lot more but at least I will have a good chance to prove myself. There would be no uncertainty about my position in the team, so it would be up to me to justify it and I am looking forward to it."

Vidarbha, who are part of the Central Zone, have been investing in professionals in the recent past. In the last year they hired former India batsman Hemang Badani and prolific domestic batsman Rashmi Parida.

After their poor run in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy, where they finished seventh in Group A, the Vidarbha Cricket Association officials sacked Sairaj Bahutule as coach and brought in Paras Mhambrey as his replacement. VCA president Prakash Dixit said the professional signings for the coming season were still not finalised.

I think Ganesh Satish is trying to get into IPL. Unfortunately he was not picked by any team in the auction, inspite of his good 1st class batting average. Karnataka team management did not pick him for limited overs tournaments (List A and T20), too much competition and that is not going to help him get noticed by the IPL teams. Every player wants to earn a few bucks in IPL before his career comes to an end. You can't blame him. It is only fair that satish earns some IPL money too. He may have better chance of playing limited overs games at Vidarbha. Good luck to him.

Unfortunate, but inevitable. Karnataka has too much bench strength. There is too much competition for batting slots. Not everyone gets to play every match. Good players like satish do not like to sit in the bench. So this was always coming. KB Pawan went to Tripura last year and now Ganesh Satish is gone. Karnataka team management was not fair to Satish though. Playing MA Agarwal at #3 in the Ranji Semi final cannot be justified. Satish is way better than MA Agarwal and R Samarth.

This is a surprise! Satish should have introspected more. I feel this is a hasty move. After his good knocks in Ranji final and Irani match, he would have been a sure starter in the playing XI next season. And if he performs, he would not be dropped at all. And his talk of less chances in One day matches is hollow talk. His game is not suited for One day matches. In the Ranji trophy last season, he scored 231 runs in the first 6 matches at an avg of 33 before being dropped for the next 4 matches till the finals. In 12 -13 season he scored 364 from 7 matches (K'taka played 9) at an avg of 44. If the unbeaten 200 he scored against TN is taken out, his aggregate & avg comes down further. So, Satish can not complain about lack of opportunities. He should have stayed back and fought on. He has risked not playing for Karnataka again. KSCA is usually hostile to players who move away to other teams. Yere Goud is a shining example of that. I wish him good luck.

He could have chosen TN over Vidarbha. The TN is looking the weakest ever in many years. With Badri fading out there isn't dependable middle order batters.

I don't think its a big loss..yes he is good player and done really well in the past for karnataka. But now problem of plenty for karnataka. Before karun nair's entry into the team, sathish's place was almost secure and he took it for granted.even after bad patch he had no fear of loosing his place. But last year it all changed with injecting new players into the team. There was only one way to keep your place in the team, either perform or perish.

to be frank its good for him personally to develop his professional career but a big big loss for Karnataka. .... Best of Luck Satish, a disappointed Karnataka supporter...
