Sialkot Stallions get place in Champions League

The Champions League T20 governing council has approved the inclusion of the Sialkot Stallions in this year's tournament to be held in October. Sialkot will be the first domestic team from Pakistan to take part in the event. Sundar Raman, a member of the CLT20's technical committee, announced the decision on Twitter. "CLT to invite Sialkot stallions for this year's edition," Raman tweeted.

Earlier this month the BCCI, the league's largest stakeholder, announced that it would inform the tournament's governing council ahead of today's meeting that it had no objection to the participation of a team from Pakistan. BCCI president N Srinivasan said the CLT20 governing council had already decided to invite a Pakistani team for the next tournament, to be held in India in October; the BCCI was now concurring with that decision. "The CLT20 is owned by the BCCI, Cricket Australia, and Cricket South Africa, so we will recommend to the governing council that the BCCI has no objection and is prepared to invite a Pakistan team," Srinivasan said at the time.

Sialkot were also the representatives in the 2008 tournament but that event was cancelled after the Mumbai terrorist attacks and Pakistani teams had been kept out of subsequent tournaments. The Sialkot Regional Cricket Association had requested the PCB last month to make efforts to enable the participation of Sialkot in the Champions League. The PCB, in turn, had said that Sialkot's participation was dependent on the restoration of bilateral ties between India and Pakistan.

I just wonder if the teams still have a possibility to purchase new players before CL or if it has to be the same team which won their domestic tournament.

This is not a war, but stop saying that india is better than Pakistan, maybe on recent form. Firstly do you remember ICL, Pakistan won 1 Final and lost one Final and guess who won the other final for the other team? Abdul Razzaq...Secondly Sohail Tanveer was a massive part of the team who won the first IPL final...Sialkot will with this format and Pakistan is one of the best in T20, in fact the T20 world cup indian won was because they got lucky in the group stage in the bowl out...based on the current rules they would have been knocked out. We all saw the semi final and for the first 100 runs Pakistan were going to win it, Pak lost that final indias bowlers are a threat to no 1.

@getsetgopk -- Do I need to remind you what happened in World Cup Semi final and in the Asia Cup? Come on my friend, just because you are still hurting from those losses does not mean you start braying like a senseless donkey!

@smartguy786, It seems my friend you are still hurting from being the only country rejected from the IPL .. Get over it , such is life.

As for my personal opinion, I am quite happy that Sialkot Stallions are playing in the Champions League. Am sure they will put up a good fight.

This is the best chance for Sialkoties to prove their coin in the CLT20 in front of all top domestic teams of the world.

As an Indian, I am daringly ashamed by the fact that pakistani players, which are undoubtedly amongst the world's best, are simply denied a place in the IPL. Politically india and pakistan are on a warfront, lets face it. But cant there ever be peace brought about these nations? Nations with the same culture, language etc..? Cricket, be it IPL, or otherwise brings both indians and pakistanis together in perfect harmony and in good spirit, win or lose, like mohali back in 2011. So people, lets try and have the likes of Afridi, Ajmal,Kamran and the long list of champions from across the border be to IPL. Sports is not War....Or else IPL will sooner than later lose its charm !

Amazing some Pakistani Fans still insist their team is the best in T20. They are very good but not best. Awake please. To reiterate IPL has been successfull even without them. In fact Mr Boom Boom was a flop when he played. Who needs players with huge egos. We have a billion people who can watch IPL dont need few more millions.

If the rules are tweaked to just let the local players play in CL then im thinking IPL teams would make it as far as the first round and if by chance since its a T20 tournament, one team do make it to round two then that would be the biggest upset LOL

@satish619chandar: Yeah please spare our players from IPL, send Wasim back too along with Aleem Dar and other officials let the indian cricket find its own coaches and match officials, its making me highly uncomfortable too.

  • POSTED BY on | May 29, 2012, 12:29 GMT

First off all what had BCCI a obection Pakista playing ? What was reason ? Also a big great Nation as Pakistan and only when team is allowed ? I am not for Pakistani team playing in IPL since Indians tried to insult Pakistan every time they got chance. But i guess for some money has higher value.

  • POSTED BY FIPL on | May 29, 2012, 11:03 GMT

@ asiacricket1234: Sialkot Stallions have players like Imran Nazir, Shoaib Malik, Abdur Rehman, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan

  • POSTED BY on | May 29, 2012, 10:47 GMT

i think bcci has understood that the popularity of ipl has been going down,if you see tha statistics it tells you avoiding a group of best t20 players in the it will not work out for a long time.

  • POSTED BY satish619chandar on | May 29, 2012, 9:53 GMT

@Xaks : IPL is one main reason for evolution of CLT20.. I don't think avoiding of foreign nationals will work.. If you avoid foreigners, it will again be like A tours like stuff..

  • POSTED BY Adeel_Nazir on | May 29, 2012, 9:45 GMT

Dear friends this is a very good decision by the governing body of CLT20 and especially a very good desicion by BCCI that they are having no problem if a team is invited from pakistan to play in CLT20.

    Thanks BCCI.

a very good day for pakistani and indian cricket fans...

Bigggg Boooooost! Sialkot Stallion got golden chance to serve & present face of Pakistan. I am so excited to see Pak team in Indian Territory. I believe Sialkot will perform upto the mark because Shoaib malik, Rana Naveed, Imran Nazir, Shakil Ansar & many potential cricketers in club as well as cricketing ties, SANIA Mirza factor will play a important role to secure HUGE SPONSORSHIP for Sialkot Stallions and may admire the HUGE Crowd.

  • POSTED BY OVEY on | May 29, 2012, 5:22 GMT

so why not Dhaka Gladiators from Bangladesh???they have got a nice team with some international players alongside some of best local players..

  • POSTED BY Xaks on | May 29, 2012, 4:29 GMT

This team will give tough time to all... i am sure!!! but there has to be some rules that CL teams should be 100% based on local players, no foreign players should be allowed....

  • POSTED BY tanstell87 on | May 29, 2012, 3:45 GMT

it wont be easy for Sialkot as pitches in India are slow & low in October...anyways why no team from Zimbabwe & Bangladesh....i can understand they would get bowled out inside 5 overs !!

  • POSTED BY satish619chandar on | May 29, 2012, 3:11 GMT

Good decision to bring Pakistan team for CLT20.. But please NO to Pakistan players in IPL.. Both the locals and the Pakistan players will be uncomfortable.. Even the fans too..
