Pakistan's Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez has said players from his country are missing out on a "great learning experience" by not being allowed to play in the IPL. The PCB, he said, should look into the matter and resolve it so that Pakistan players get a chance to work with other international players.

"It is strange that for years now Pakistani players have not been allowed to play in the IPL because it is a world-class league and there is so much to learn from it," Hafeez told Express newspaper. "I played in the first season of the IPL and I got a chance to share the dressing room with greats like Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting and it was a great learning experience. I believe that what our players are missing out the most is this aspect of playing in the IPL."

Hafeez represented Kolkata Knights Riders in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, but Pakistan players have not been allowed in the tournament since the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 which strained relations between the two nations.

"It is no use taking interest in a thing you are not part of," he said. "But this IPL problem is something that our cricket board should look into and resolve. Because it is a world-class event and every player wants to take part in such an event where the big crowds only add to the fun and excitement."

We need Pakistan players as well. Why to discriminate players for political reasons? The paradox is when Pakistan as a team is allowed to play in India vs India(Dec 2012 ODI series), then why shouldn't they play in India in IPL?

these pakistanis never stop cribbing about IPL "want to play/not interested/who cares/we are best T20 players/IPL missing us" - Franchises already burned their hands in 2009 IPL 2 in SA, when PCB did not allow any pakistani player to participate IPL2 in SA after the 2008 attacks. It was evident that last year no franchise had interest in PAK players as nobody got picked in auction. Nobody knows who will be incharge of PCB in April at the time IPL starts and the new chairperson will not allow Pakistani players to participate in IPL. Franchises do not want to take extra risk with limited overseas spots and providing security is another big headache for franchises.

Absolutely spot on Hafeez - Pak players need the IPL experience and why not the money as well.

As an Indian and a fan of IPL I would love (and pay) to watch Pak players play in IPL.

The bowling expertise they bring the grit and determination that I have known Pak players to show will add to both the IPL experience for the viewer and for the individual players who play in those teams.

Perhaps PCB should do more to get BCCI to allow Pak players.

Even though Pakistanis attacked Mumbai why are Pakistani cricket players to be blamed. But if we let them in our league, they must let us into theirs. I am an Indian to those who may think otherwise.

Only substandard players like hafeez needs to go and play IPL so that he can earn some money and retires from the pak team. I don't see any advantage other then money for pak players playing in IPL because the conditions there are similar to pak and they will not learn anything. Also T20 is not the real game currently pak batsmen need to learn to stay on the wicket. If they want to play leagues then they are better off playing in BBL or SA leagues on the bouncy pitches.

I would love to see Pakistani players in IPL and hoping them to be in this season. Being an Indian, I love pakistan T20 team and I agree, it would be beneficial to both the countries. Players like Junaid, Hafeez, Akmal and Ajmal should definitely participate in this kind of tournament.
