Ajit Agarkar has replaced Aavishkar Salvi in the squad for the Mohali Test. The Indian selectors had earlier announced that the squad would remain unchanged, but an injury to the webbing on Salvi's right hand during practice forced the change. Salvi had gone to the India A tour of England earlier this year with exactly the same injury, and had missed the early matches of the tour for that reason.
Agarkar might have expected to be in the squad in any case, given L Balaji's poor showing in the Ahmedabad Test. Balaji kept his place, but this new development should propel Agarkar in the playing XI for the Mohali Test.
Before this Test, there had been murmurs of discontent in the Indian camp about Sanjay Bangar's exclusion from the squad for the Ahmedabad Test. However, with Akash Chopra showing sound technique at the top of the order and superb reflexes at short leg, Bangar will have to wait a while longer to return to the national side.
The squad Sourav Ganguly (capt), Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Akash Chopra, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Parthiv Patel (wk), Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, L Balaji, Yuvraj Singh, Sairaj Bahutule.
