Tillakaratne Dilshan isn't in the Sri Lankan team for his batting alone. In the second final in Adelaide, with Sri Lanka needing to win to stay alive in the finals, Dilshan turned in a fine all-round performance, taking one wicket with his offspinners and scoring a century to guide Sri Lanka to an easy eight-wicket win.
His captain Mahela Jayawardene cleverly tossed him the new ball and he withstood the challenge. He bowled ten overs for just 40 runs and took the wicket of Matthew Wade. Chasing 272, the visitors galloped to the target with 5.4 overs to spare, benefiting greatly from a rollicking start when the first three overs reaped 30 runs.
Dilshan alternated between the brazen and the cheeky, crashing 10 fours and also being struck on the helmet when he attempted his patented Dil-scoop. Dilshan did not get too frantic after the start, and slipped into a comfortable gear that involved regular singles and the odd boundary whenever the bowlers strayed in search of a first wicket.
He hit ten fours in is 106, off 119 balls and when he departed in the 39th over, Sri Lanka were well on course to victory.
