Australia v Pakistan 1999-2000

At Brisbane, January 9 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Brisbane, January 9 (day/night). Pakistan won by 45 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
Shoaib Akhtar, his ban suspended at the last minute, made a trans-continental dash from Perth and played a crucial role in his side's victory, dismissing Ponting and Steve Waugh with successive balls. Abdur Razzaq quickly trumped him with three wickets in six balls and Australia, having lost five for seven runs, were on course for their second defeat in 16 one-day internationals. Shoaib guaranteed it when he broke the eighth-wicket stand of 33 between a defiant Bevan and Dale. He had arrived at the Gabba 12 minutes after play began to find Pakistan batting and a wicket down from Dale's first over. They looked out of contention at 60 for six, but first Moin Khan and Wasim Akram (a victim of Ponting's arm from extra cover), then Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Younis built a total they could defend. The final over, bowled by McGrath, yielded 18 runs.
Man of the Match: Abdur Razzaq. Attendance: 35,738.
