Bangladesh v India 1999-2000

At Dhaka, May 30, 31 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Dhaka, May 30, 31 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. Toss: Bangladesh. International debuts: Mushfiqur Rehman; H. K. Badani.
Despite a much-improved performance, Bangladesh were crushed again as India's batsmen replied in determined mood. When rain ended play on the first day, the hosts were handily placed at 98 for two. Next day, Habibul Bashar and Aminul Islam extended their partnership to 94 before both fell to Tendulkar, India's eighth bowler, and Akram Khan hit a whirlwind 64 as 97 came from the final ten overs. Ganguly, fearful of more rain, hit back with a breathtaking 135 from 124 balls, including seven sixes and six fours. He and Tendulkar, who took 22 off one over from Manjurul Islam, opened with 85 runs from 11 overs, and Hemang Badani scored a competent 35 on debut before Azharuddin and Ganguly saw India home, adding 100 in 15 overs. Earlier, Karim, India's wicket-keeper, was ruled out of the tournament after being hit near the eye by a rising delivery from Kumble; Dravid replaced him behind the stumps.
Man of the Match: S. C. Ganguly.
