Ben Scott added to Lions squad

England have added Middlesex wicketkeeper Ben Scott to the Lions squad to tour New Zealand later this month.

"We will require additional cover in the wicketkeeping position as Matt Prior has requested permission to return home to for a short period following the birth of his first child which is due on March 2," Geoff Miller, the national selector, explained. "At this stage, we anticipate Matt will be available for the first three Tests in West Indies. Stephen Davies will then fly out from New Zealand for the final Test in Trinidad to provide cover for Tim Ambrose.

"Ben Scott is a young wicketkeeper who impressed the selectors last season and this is an excellent opportunity for him to further his development. James Foster was also considered but he is currently recuperating from a shoulder operation and his priority will be to regain full fitness ahead of the domestic season."
