CCI launches inquiry against Dungarpur

Raj Singh Dungarpur, the former president of the Cricket Club of India (CCI), has been accused of misappropriation of funds by CCI officials regarding the installation of floodlights at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Dungarpur, who headed the CCI for 12 years before retiring this year, has reportedly been barred from representing the club at any meeting of the Indian board until an enquiry is completed.

The Press Trust of India reported that IM Kadri, the current CCI president, has requested the audit firm KPMG to investigate the alleged misuse of funds by Dungarpur. Kadri apparently notified Dungarpur about the case in a letter dated August 29 while RN Renjen, the CCI chief executive officer, sent another letter asking Dungarpur - a former BCCI president - not to attend any meeting on behalf of the club.

Dungarpur, 71, confirmed to PTI that he had received a letter from the CCI. "Yes, I have received such a letter. I just need a little time to clear my name from this," he said. "I don't want to say anything much at this stage. I don't see any problem in getting my name cleared. There had been no problems with accounts while putting up floodlights at the Brabourne Stadium. It's because of the floodlights that we hosted the Champions Trophy matches."

The Brabourne Stadium, which has not held a Test since the neighbouring Wankhede Stadium was built in 1974-75, hosted five matches, including the final, of last year's Champions Trophy.
