Wisden's review of the fourth match, Australia v India, Commonwealth Bank Series, 2011-12

15-Apr-2013
At Adelaide, February 12, 2012 (day/night). India won by four wickets. India 4pts. Toss: Australia. One-day international debut: P. J. Forrest.
With 12 needed off four balls, Dhoni produced possibly the shot of the tournament, playing back to a half-volley from McKay and pummelling it over long-on for six. It went further than many incredulous locals could recall seeing at the Adelaide Oval; even allowing for his remarkable forearm strength, it was a stupendous blow.
The next delivery, a waist-high no-ball, produced three runs - two for the leg-side heave, which was caught at deep square leg, and one for the transgression - before Dhoni pulled McKay for three more to complete a breathless win with two balls to spare. It was a good thing too: at one stage, his typically unhurried approach seemed to presage another loss.
Arriving at the crease with India seemingly coasting - despite the loss of Gambhir, harshly ruled leg-before to make it 178 for four in the 35th over - Dhoni scored only two from his first 16 balls. But he was merely biding his time, adding 61 with Raina and shrugging off the loss of Jadeja before the final assault. Australia's challenging total revolved around an energetic fourth-wicket stand of 98 between debutant Peter Forrest and David Hussey, but they were unable to capitalise.
Man of the Match: G. Gambhir.
Attendance: 22,728.
