Younis Ahmed has sued the United Cricket Board and Dr Ali Bacher
for defamation arising from a document setting out details of
alleged serious dishonest conduct against Mr Ahmed. This
document was sent to the Cricket Union's Provincial Chief
Executive Officers by Dr Bacher.
The case was set down for 17 November 1999 and both parties were
notified of this on 12 August 1999.
The United Cricket Board and Dr Bacher were ready and willing to
proceed and appeared at court today. Mr Ahmed applied to
postpone the case on the grounds, inter alia, that he was not
ready to deal with the evidence to be brought by Dr Bacher which
the United Cricket Board and Dr Bacher believe will have a
serious adverse effect on Mr Ahmed's character and reputation.
When it became clear that Dr Bacher and the United Cricket Board
opposed the postponement, Mr Ahmed agreed to pay the costs of Dr
Bacher and the United Cricket Board, and the case was postponed.
