12 Consecutive home ODIs won by New Zealand before this defeat by eight wickets. Their run began with a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in Wellington on January 31, 2015. The unbeaten streak included two matches against Pakistan, eight World Cup games and the first two matches of the ogoing series. The previous longest winning streak at home lasted eight matches across 2007 and 2008. longest such streak for New Zealand at home was their eight wins across 2007 and 2008.
2 ODIs won by Sri Lanka in chase of 275 or more losing only two or fewer wickets, including this. They won by nine wickets against England chasing 310 in the World Cup match in Wellington before this. Incidentally, no other team has achieved this feat even once this year. Overall, this is only the eighth such victory in ODI history; four of those have been achieved by Sri Lanka.
2692 Runs by Kane Williamson in International matches in 2015, the third-highest by any batsman in a calendar year after Ricky Ponting (2833 runs) in 2005 and Kumar Sangakkara (2813) in 2014. Williamson scored those runs at 65.65 in 46 innings with eight centuries and 14 half-centuries. Steven Smith is second on this list with 2369 runs at 65.80 (Year-wise aggregates for matches beginning on or after January 1st).
1489 Martin Guptill's ODI runs tally this year - eighth-highest for any batsman in a calendar year and second-highest by a non-Asian batsman. Of the seven higher aggregates, five have been by Indians (two each by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and one by Rahul Dravid), one each by Saeed Anwar and Matthew Hayden. Williamson is the second-highest scorer in ODIs this year. Guptill and Williamson also have made the most 50-plus scores in 2015 - 12.
1207 Runs by Tillakaratne Dilshan as opener in ODIs this year - most by any Sri Lanka opener in a year. He went past Sanath Jayasuriya, who had scored 1202 runs as opener in 2001. He also ends as the third-highest run getter in ODIs this year after Guptill and Williamson.
3 Number of times Dilshan has been dismissed in the nineties in ODIs. This was the second time he was run-out in the nineties: he was run-out on 97 in an ODI against India in 2008-09. His other such score came against South Africa in 2013. Only Hansie Cronje and Martin Crowe have got run out thrice in the nineties. Sourav Ganguly and Adam Gilchrist are the other batsmen who have suffered this twice.
15 Totals of 275 or more by New Zealand in ODIs this year - most by any team. Out of 15, ten were while batting first and five while chasing. South Africa scored 275 or more 12 times, all coming while batting first. New Zealand have never had these many big scores in any calendar year in the past; next best is eight such totals in 2007 and 2014.
3 Number of Sri Lanka batsmen to reach half-century within first eight overs of the innings. Danushka Gunathilaka got there off the last ball of the eighth over, his 28th ball. Other two are: Dilshan on the third ball of eighth against Bangladesh in Dambulla in 2010 and Kusal Perera on the last ball of fifth over against Pakistan in Pallekele earlier this year.
42 Runs added by New Zealand's eighth-wicket pair Doug Bracewell and Adam Milne. This is their highest for that wicket since Nathan McCullum and Daniel Vettori shared a stand of 54 against Australia in Nagpur in 2011 World Cup.
450 Tim Southee's strike rate in this innings, scoring unbeaten 18 in four balls with two sixes and a four. This is the second-highest strike rate in an innings where a batsman has faced two or more balls. Also, this is the second-highest excluding seven players who hit a six off their only ball faced (where balls faced information is available).
