Geoff Holmes, the former Glamorgan allrounder, has been named as the
next director of cricket for the Cricket Board of Wales (CBW). He will
succeed Mark Frost, who will be joining the Sports Council for
Wales at the end of February.
Holmes, 46, played 398 matches for Glamorgan between 1978 and 1991, and
once took 5 for 2 in a one-day match against Derbyshire at Ebbw Vale
with his medium-pace. Since retiring, he has worked for a
building society in South Wales, and has coached young cricketers for
his local club in Cardiff.
"We are delighted to welcome someone of Geoff's calibre and experience
to the CBW," said Hugh Davies, their chairman. "We are indebted to Mark for
the considerable work he has done in taking the development of junior
and other cricket in Wales forward over the past five and a half years."
