Glyn Davies has been appointed by the Hong Kong Cricket Association as the Team Manager for the Hong Kong Women's Cricket Team for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou during November 2010.
When asked for his aspirations about the job, Glyn provided the following statement.
"As many will know I have been involved with the men's cricket in Hong Kong for many years in various roles and was very much part of the transition to multi age group one day international representation for Hong Kong teams. Even so I was somewhat surprised when I was approached to take up the challenge of trying to broaden the base of local players and also prepare them for the likely participation in next year's Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Just under a year does not provide a huge amount of time to prepare any squad of athletes for a tournament such as this - but if it was easy it wouldn't be a challenge. It will demand a great deal of hard work and committment from everyone concerned with the project, particularly the players, some of whom will be fairly new to the sport, but what an opportunity. Obviously it is difficult to imagine beating teams of players who have so much more experience, but as has been proven on so many occasions in this game, teamwork, team spirit, guts and sheer determination can often be the downfall of the even the best.
The HKCA will be soon holding an open recruitment session to which we will welcome anyone who feels they have the interest and drive to represent Hong Kong in a major international tournament, and if not this one then perhaps the next one after gaining more experience in the local leagues. Come along and try out - you never know!"
