Returning after a day off, Pakistan ended their losing streak in style. For the third time running, they chose to bat, but this time it paid off. No team had yet reached 200 in this tournament, but Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana coasted past in an unbroken partnership of 151 in 22 overs - the last ten yielded 93. Inzamam struck nine fours and five sixes in his 121 from 113 balls. Waqar Younis then took over. His first spell removed Ganguly and Joshi, promoted to No. 4 as a pinch-hitter, his second saw off Azharuddin and Jadeja and left India 99 for six in the 29th over. Waqar collected five wickets for the tenth time in one-day internationals, and shared the match award with Inzamam.
