At Jamshedpur, April 9, 2005. Pakistan won by 106 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
The balding and uncharismatic Naved-ul-Hasan proved an effective stand-in for Shoaib Akhtar's
more explosive if unreliable gifts, and took a career-best six for 27 to drag Pakistan back into the
series. On a helpful pitch, he fiddled his length subtly, extracting movement and bounce. He was
complemented by the skiddy nip of Mohammad Sami, who made Tendulkar his 100th one-day
international victim, while Younis Khan took four catches for the second time at this level, a
unique feat. The contest was all but over when India were 82 for six, though Pathan hit a lusty
maiden fifty. Salman Butt, with his second one-day international century - both against India -
had given Pakistan's bowlers enough runs to play with. His 101 was one of those dreamy lefthanded
centuries, with strokes caressed through cover and point and occasionally flicked over
square leg. An incisive 75 from Shoaib Malik and a charming but fleeting appearance from Yousuf
Youhana helped to set a target of 320. Afterwards, Ganguly was fined 70% of his match fee for
a slow over-rate.
Man of the Match: Naved-ul-Hasan.
