India, although unable to maintain the frenetic rate provided by Srikkanth and Gavaskar, none the less put up a sizeable score after being put in on yet another pitch obviously prepared to suit the spinners. The Sri Lankan innings never developed as Yadav, Maninder and Shastri used the pitch to deny runs and also keep the batsmen on the hop.
