Kenya v India 1999-2000

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 29

15-Apr-2001
At Gymkhana, Nairobi, September 29. India won by 58 runs. Toss: Kenya.
A slow pitch made run-scoring difficult for both sides. After 22 overs, India had trudged to just 56, also held back by inspired Kenyan fielding. Importantly, however, they had lost only one wicket, allowing more expansive batting later on. Although the opener, Ramesh, needed 116 balls for his half-century, Jadeja hit 31 at a run a ball - and Bharadwaj savaged an unbeaten 41 from just 30. When the Kenyans batted, they showed no such patience - and paid the price. Otieno, having already dropped Chopra and missed a stumping chance against Jadeja, edged the first ball of the innings from the hand of one Prasad into the gloves of the other. Tikolo followed next over and, by the end of the tenth, Kenya were a desperate 42 for four. There was no way back. Mannava Prasad made five dismissals to share what was then the record in one-day internationals.
Man of the Match: R. V. Bharadwaj.
