At Gros Islet, St Lucia, April 21, 2011. West Indies won by seven runs. Toss: West Indies. Twenty20 international debuts: C. D. Barnwell, D. Bishoo, D. P. Hyatt, A. R. Nurse, A. D. Russell; Junaid Khan, Mohammad Salman.
West Indies fielded an almost unrecognisable side: Chanderpaul and Sarwan were not picked, while Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard had preferred Australia's lucrative Big Bash to the regional Twenty20 tournament in January, on which selection here was based. Their victory was therefore something of a surprise. The foundations were laid in a second-wicket partnership of 99 in 67 balls between Simmons and Darren Bravo, after which Bishoo's leg-spin and Rampaul's lively seam bowling kept Pakistan below the required rate. Bishoo removed Asad Shafiq (well caught by Danza Hyatt at short midwicket) and Misbah-ul-Haq (who dislodged the bails as he set off after hitting to long-on) with successive balls in his first over. Marlon Samuels played his first international match for more than three years, after completing a suspension for links to an alleged bookmaker.
Man of the Match: D. Bishoo.
