At Gros Islet, St Lucia, April 23, 2011. Pakistan won by eight wickets. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debuts: Hammad Azam, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Salman.
As in their heavy World Cup quarter-final defeat the previous month, West Indies were throttled by Pakistan's spinners. Sammy said he was surprised to see so much turn and bounce at his home ground; it took his belligerent unbeaten 29 from 17 balls, with two sixes and three fours - along with 30 extras - to lift his side past 200. Darren Bravo laboured for 67 off 109 deliveries as Pakistan's three slow bowlers gave up just 100 runs from their combined 30 overs. The stalled progress led to the run-outs of Samuels and, in the 45th over, Bravo. Bishoo was West Indies' only recognised spinner and, although he took the two wickets to fall, Pakistan had little difficulty breezing to their modest target. Hafeez added 54 off 45 balls to his miserly bowling, then Asad Shafiq and Misbah-ul- Haq completed the job with an unbroken partnership of 134 in 24.5 overs.
Man of the Match: Mohammad Hafeez.
