PAKISTAN v ENGLAND 1977-78

At Sialkot, December 30

15-Apr-1979
At Sialkot, December 30. England won by six wickets. Except for a nine-over spell producing 64 runs from the left-handers Wasim Raja and Hassan Jamil, Pakistan were seldom in serious contention. England's success would have been even more assured if Botham had held a return catch offered by Wasim Raja when 10. Wasim Raja made good his escape with two driven 6s off Miller, who conceded eighteen in the over. Mudassar Nazar batted soundly, but Miandad was run out by the length of the pitch after a misunderstanding with Haroon Rashid. England, captained by Boycott, who put Pakistan in first, bowled well with Lever and Edmonds outstanding. Rose and Randall put on 61 for the third wicket, and again Botham made the winning hit - this time with seventeen balls to spare.
Pakistan 151 (33.7 overs) (Wasim Raja 43, Mudassar Nazar 33, J. K. Lever three for 18); England 152 for four (32.7 overs) (D. W. Randall 51 not out, B. C. Rose 45).
