†PAKISTAN v ENGLAND 1987-88

At Lahore, November 18

15-Apr-1989
At Lahore, November 18. England won by two wickets. Toss: Pakistan. England got themselves bogged down chasing an apparently comfortable target, with Athey scoring only 20 in 21 overs. At one stage they were 140 for eight with only three of their 45 overs remaining. However, DeFreitas won the match in the final over with a six over long-off off Qadir, who was captaining the side in the absence of Miandad, who had flu. Pakistan had earlier struggled on a slow, turning pitch, especially against Emburey, and suffered a further setback when Salim Yousuf dislocated his thumb in England's first over. Salim Malik took over as wicket-keeper from the third over.
Man of the Match: J. E. Emburey.
