Pakistan v West Indies 1999-2000

Toss: West Indies

15-Apr-2001
Toss: West Indies. International debut: Shabbir Ahmed.
Pakistan completed a clean sweep as Shabbir Ahmed made a dramatic debut. A tall, 23-year-old fast bowler with an unconventional action, he took the new ball in the absence of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, who were rested. His first over saw three leg-side wides run to the boundary, but also the wicket of Griffith, clean bowled; in a later spell, he bowled Powell and Gayle with consecutive deliveries to round off a West Indian collapse of five for six in 47 balls. Though their team was supposedly packed with batsmen, West Indies were only 161 when Mushtaq Ahmed, in his first one-day international for 17 months, finished them off with his third wicket. Walsh checked Pakistan momentarily, bowling Wajahatullah Wasti first ball, but he later left the field with a side strain. Abdur Razzaq and Inzamam-ul-Haq both hit fifties, with eight fours apiece, and Pakistan won comfortably with ten overs in hand.
Man of the Match: Abdur Razzaq.
