R Ashwin's three wickets helped India beat England convincingly by six wickets at Nottingham on Saturday, to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.
India's captain, MS Dhoni, chose to bowl first and expected his fast bowlers to make the most of the moisture in the air and the pitch, but Buhvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami failed to capitalise.
England's openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales got their side off to a solid start. The duo put on a 82-run opening stand, before India changed their bowling strategy and introduced spin for the first time.
The move paid dividends immediately. Hales was dismissed after he top-edged a sweep off Suresh Raina and then Cook was stumped, to give Ambati Rayudu his first international wicket.
England's batsmen had no answer to India's spinners and the hosts lost wickets regularly thereafter. Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin left the middle-order flummoxed.
Ashwain claimed Eoin Morgan, Jos Butler and Ben Stokes in quick succession. England managed just 227 runs in their 50 overs.
India's openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane, got their side off to a strong start. The duo hit four boundaries in the first seven overs before Dhawan hit a short ball straight to backward point and was dismissed for 16.
Virat Kohli then joined Rahane to put on a 50-run second-wicket stand. The momentum built early in India's innings helped the tourists through to the end.
Ambati Rayadu top-scored with 64, Kohli scored 40 and Suresh Raina 42 runs, to help their side to their second-straight win of the series.
"The downtime gave me some time to work on my bowling. I thought the wicket had some bounce, it was good to bowl on. Me and Jaddu have a good record against England which is a real help. I thought it [Raina's catch] was going for four but he plucked it out," Ashwin said.
