South Africa v India, 2010-11

Wisden's review of the fourth ODI, South Africa v India, 2010-11

15-Apr-2011
At Port Elizabeth, January 21, 2011 (day/night). South Africa won by 48 runs (D/L method). Toss: South Africa.
South Africa's batsmen judged the pitch better than the curator, who swore it would be "worth at least 300". As it transpired it was particularly awkward for batting, and hard work was the order of the day - unless you were Amla, whose wristy strength and ability to play the ball impossibly late enabled him to conjure attacking strokes. From 106 for one South Africa dipped alarmingly to 118 for five, but Amla's flying start gave Duminy and Botha the time to rebuild sensibly, leading to a very competitive total. Amla passed 2,000 one-day international runs in only his 40th innings, breaking the previous record of 45 by Zaheer Abbas and Kevin Pietersen. Kohli was outstanding in reply, hitting seven fours and two sixes from 92 balls, but nobody else looked comfortable, and when rain ended proceedings the target was simply out of sight, allowing South Africa to level the series.
Man of the Match: J-P. Duminy.
