At Cape Town, October 22 (day/night). South Africa won by 208 runs. South Africa 5 pts. Toss:
South Africa.
The hero of Kenya's triumph over India, Angara, had departed after the death of his mother,
and South Africa brutally reimposed the normal order. They were equally ruthless on Dippenaar,
one of four changes in their side, despite his two consecutive fifties. But Kirsten justified his swift
return after injury with another polished hundred, his 12th, which also made him the first South
African to score 6,000 one-day international runs. He barely missed a bad ball, and heavily punished
Martin Suji for missing a return catch when he was 12. Kirsten's stand of 207 in 34 overs with
the stylish McKenzie was a South African second-wicket record. Boucher lifted a good total to
an unassailable one, smashing four sixes in a ferocious fifty from only 19 balls. Kenya did not
have the firepower to respond, and South Africa converted their second-highest total in one-day
internationals into their biggest win.
Man of the Match: N. D. McKenzie.
