South West, New York seal big wins

South West Region put up a suffocating display in the field in an eight-wicket win over North East Region to kick off day two of the USACA T20 National Championship. North East had no answer for South West's spin attack which claimed seven of the ten wickets. Teenage medium-pacer Sahaj Patel did the most damage though, wiping out the middle order to finish with 3 for 12 as North East were bowled out for 62 in 18 overs. North East seamer Simon Laveau took two wickets in the second over of the chase, but any hopes of an upset were dashed by Ritesh Kadu, who used the sweep to great effect and finished unbeaten on 44 off 32 balls, as South West reached the target in nine overs.

In the other match played on the satellite fields at the Central Broward Regional Park, New York defeated Central West by seven wickets. Central West got off to a strong start before they lost five wickets for 10 runs to go from 45 for 0 to 55 for 5. Karan Ganesh was the pick of New York's bowlers and finished with 3 for 23 from his offspin. Former Tamil Nadu player Dhandapani Devarasan propped up the Central West innings with 44 off 36 as the team eventually finished with 155 for 9. Steve Massiah and Javien Thomas added 71 in a dominant second wicket partnership that put New York on course for victory. Thomas ended with 41 while Massiah cashed in with 54 off 45 before both were dismissed by Majid Rizvi. USA players Rashard Marshall and Barrington Bartley sealed the chase with an unbroken 43-run stand as New York got across the line with 15 balls to spare.

Inside the stadium, Atlantic collapsed after a strong opening stand between Raj Bhavsar and Francis Mendonca to be restricted to 102 for 8 and eventually fell to North West by eight wickets. Bhavsar scored 28 and Mendonca 20, the only two to cross double-figures for Atlantic as legspinner Rahul Singh claimed 3 for 15. The North West chase was highlighted by Shiva Vashishat's crisp 47. He added 45 for the second wicket with Srini Santhanam and another 40 for the third with Saqib Saleem in an easy-paced innings. With six needed to win, Vashishat charged down the track in an attempt to end the match and bring up a half-century at once but was beaten in flight and stumped off Mahendra Khublal. Saleem remained unbeaten on 33 as North West clinched the chase with an over to spare.
