SRI LANKA v WEST INDIES

At Berri, March 13

15-Apr-1993
At Berri, March 13. West Indies won by 91 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. The West Indians pressed on, their hopes of a semi-final place growing, while the exhausted Sri Lankans continued their slide down the table. Simmons reached his highest score in limited-overs internationals in 125 balls, with the help of two sixes and nine fours, and three dropped catches when he was six and 47 (twice). Receiving valuable support from Haynes and Arthurton, he took West Indies to 197 by the 40th over. Then five wickets went cheaply before the tail hit out; the No. 10, Benjamin, struck an unbeaten 24 from 20 deliveries.
Samarasekera gave Sri Lanka another promising start, with 40 from 41 balls. But he fell to Hooper's off-spin, and 80 for one became 99 for four. Briefly, Ranatunga organised some resistance and the last man, Wickremasinghe, saved his team from the indignity of being bowled out for under 150.
Man of the Match: P. V. Simmons. Attendance: 3,107.
