Another weather-affected match and another pitch that offered all things to all bowlers rendered batting a struggle. India's toil seemed to justify Mathews's decision to bowl first. So too was the 167 that would have eliminated India on net run-rate and made West Indies their opponents in the final. If anything, conditions became even more difficult for batting. Within his first five overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck four times, including Jayawardene and Sangakkara, who fell first ball to a harsh lbw decision; only Chandimal, with 26 from 58 balls, survived more than 22 deliveries as Sri Lanka succumbed for 96, the lowest total by a Test nation in a one-day international in the Caribbean.
