West Indies v Bangladesh 2009

A review of West Indies v Bangladesh, Only T20, 2009

15-Apr-2010
At Basseterre, St Kitts, August 2, 2009. West Indies won by five wickets. Toss: Bangladesh. Twenty20 debut: D. C. Thomas. Twenty20 international debuts: D. E. Bernard, T. M. Dowlin, N. O. Miller, F. L. Reifer, D. M. Richards, G. C. Tonge; Nazmul Hossain.
West Indies made the most of Bangladesh's distinctly end-of-term approach to gain a consolation victory at the last. While the tourists squandered wickets with careless strokes and running, the home side were unusually sharp in the field. Their four run-outs were all from direct hits, two by Sammy, who also dismissed Junaid Siddique and Mohammad Ashraful with his fourth and fifth balls. At 66 for seven, Bangladesh were in danger of undercutting their lowest Twenty20 total (83 against Sri Lanka, in the 2007-08 world tournament in South Africa) before Mahmudullah guided them past 100. Shakib Al Hasan bowled Richards with the first ball of West Indies' reply, but Smith, Dowlin and the captain, Reifer, ensured they had something at least to show from a distressing series.
Man of the Match: D. J. G. Sammy.
