West Indies v England 1929-30

Pulling the game round in great style, M.C.C

15-Apr-1931
Pulling the game round in great style, M.C.C. won the second representative contest by 167 runs. They lost their first three wickets for 12 runs but O'Connor batted carefully and Hendren and Ames put on 81. Though St. Hill and Hunte played steadily, West Indies had seven men out for 160 but Constantine and Betancourt, the former scoring 58 in fifty minutes, took their side ahead.
When M.C.C., facing arrears of 46, went in a second time, Hendren and Ames, adding 237 for the fourth wicket, more than retrieved another bad start. After an early chance, each thoroughly mastered an attack weakened by the absence of Achong. Hendren, completing his 1,000 runs for the tour, hit twenty-nine 4's and Ames seventeen. When M.C.C., with eight men out, declared, West Indies, needing 380 to win, experienced great trouble with Voce who, disposing of seven batsmen for 70, came out with a record for the match of eleven wickets for less than 14 runs apiece.
