†WEST INDIES v PAKISTAN 1987-88

At St John's, March 15

15-Apr-1989
At St John's, March 15. West Indies won by five wickets. Toss: West Indies. Pakistan never recovered after losing wickets in the fifth, sixth and eighth overs. Patterson had Ramiz caught at mid-wicket by Hooper; Ambrose had Salim Malik taken in the slips, low down, by Greenidge, having hit him on the boot first ball, and 1 run later, he yorked Mudassar. Imran batted superbly for his 53, and Yousuf and Wasim hit out effectively, but a total of 166 was not enough. The target was made to look easy by Greenidge and Simmons as they put on 88 for the first wicket in eighteen overs. Simmons hit nine fours in his 54; Greenidge, who after missing the first game was leading West Indies for the first time, lasted another four overs for his 35. Imran and Mudassar picked up three more wickets, but West Indies won comfortably with 8.5 overs to spare. Haynes, after twisting his ankle during practice, was replaced by Best.
Man of the Match: W. K. M. Benjamin.
