West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

West Indies v South Africa, 2004-05

Telford Vice
15-Apr-2006

At Port-of-Spain, May 15, 2005. South Africa won by seven wickets. Toss: South Africa.
West Indies were whitewashed in a home one-day series for the very first time. The saddest truth was that they deserved nothing else. Rain transformed this match into a 20-over game - a Twenty20 international in all but name - and South Africa had the advantage of having played the format in their domestic competition. Pollock inserted West Indies, who promptly panicked. Only Bravo, whose 41 not out came from 40 balls and included just three fours, seemed to understand that proper strokeplay was more valuable than big hitting. Chasing a moderate 139, the South African openers de Villiers and Dippenaar launched their reply confidently with a stand of 46 in less than six overs. The increasingly mature Dippenaar made a slick unbeaten 61 from 47 balls.
Man of the Match: H. H. Dippenaar.
