Will Gidman, who has been back in action for Nottinghamshire's Second XI recently having recovered from an ankle injury, has joined Kent on a month's loan.
Gidman, 31, joins Kent as cover for the injured Fabian Cowdrey and Calum Haggett and will be available for six games - two in the Championship, where Kent still hold promotion hopes, and four in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
A medium-pace bowler and left-handed batsman, Gidman made his name at Gloucestershire before leaving for Trent Bridge, where he has struggled to hold down a regular place.
Kent's captain Sam Northeast told the county's website: "Will was a serious talent during his time at Gloucestershire. He doesn't have blistering pace but is very skilful with the ball and gets a few runs.
"With Fabian Cowdrey and Calum Haggett out, he will bolster our resources and I'm sure he will do a great job. He is hungry to play and we hope he will come into the side and buy into what the team is all about as our two overseas players have."
Gidman, who has taken 198 wickets at 23.48 in his first class career overall, could feature with the red ball in two influential Division Two top-half fixtures, against Worcestershire at Canterbury and a further contest, at the end of his loan deal, against Gloucestershire, this time at Bristol.
