Bangladesh v Afghanistan, 2016-17

Wisden's review of the third ODI, Bangladesh v Afghanistan, 2016-17

15-Apr-2017
Third one-day international At Mirpur, October 1, 2016 (day/night). Bangladesh won by 141 runs. ‡Bangladesh 279-8 (50 overs) (Tamim Iqbal 118, Sabbir Rahman 65); Afghanistan 138 (33.5 overs). MoM: Tamim Iqbal. MoS: Tamim Iqbal.
A run-a-ball 118 from Tamim turned the decider into a procession. It was his seventh hundred in ODIs, a record for Bangladesh, who completed their 100th win in the format. Afghanistan had themselves to blame: Stanikzai dropped a sitter at mid-on when Tamim had only one. He added 140 with Sabbir Rahman, before Mahmudullah added late impetus with a 22-ball 32. Afghanistan's chase was all but dead in the 25th over, when Rahmat Shah fell for a slow 36 to leave them 88-6 and well behind the rate; they dribbled on for another eight overs. Left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain, making a comeback after eight years, did most of the damage with 3-24. He had missed 145 matches, the longest gap between appearances for Bangladesh.
