Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, 2013-14

15-Apr-2015
At Mirpur, February 20, 2014 (day/night). Second one-day international: Sri Lanka won by 61 runs. ‡Sri Lanka 289-6 (50 overs) (K. C. Sangakkara 128, S. M. A. Priyanjan 60, A. D. Mathews 56*; Rubel Hossain 3-76); Bangladesh 228 (43 overs) (Anamul Haque 42, Mushfiqur Rahim 79). MoM: K. C. Sangakkara. Bangladesh were derailed by the voracious Sangakkara, who hit a casually dominant 128 in 115 deliveries. Rubel Hossain had dismissed the openers cheaply again, only for Sangakkara to launch a fourth-wicket stand of 114 with Ashan Priyanjan; he struck 14 fours, prospering in the arc between cover and midwicket, before falling to a fine boundary catch by Mahmudullah as he sought quick runs at the death. Mathews added the finishing touches with a 39-ball 56. Bangladesh kept in sight of the required rate as Mushfiqur Rahim strung together a series of partnerships. But injudicious strokes against persistent bowling were their undoing. Mushfiqur was ninth out. Shakib Al Hasan was later banned for three games for a lewd gesture, ostensibly at the TV commentators who criticised the stroke that got him out.
