Indians v Leicestershire

Wisden's review of the first Tour match, Indians v Leicestershire

15-Apr-2015
At Leicester, June 26-28 (not first-class). Drawn. ‡Indians 333-4 dec (S. Dhawan 60 ret hurt, G. Gambhir 54, C. A. Pujara 57); Leicestershire 349-5 (A. J. Robson 126, G. P. Smith 101, D. J. Redfern 58). Leicestershire chose from 14 players, and the Indians 18. The tourists eased into English conditions with a gentle workout against the weakest of the counties, giving all squad members some practice in the Duncan Fletcher way. Disappointingly for a city where around a fifth of the population is of Indian origin, Grace Road was half empty on the opening day. The Indians prospered against a second-string Leicestershire attack, although Shikhar Dhawan had to retire hurt after being hit on the right elbow by Atif Sheikh. The next day was rained off. Ishant Sharma endured a difficult game: he overstepped seven times and was heckled by spectators. India used ten bowlers, nine of them as Angus Robson and Greg Smith put on 221 in 35 overs, retiring out together after making centuries. Smith went to his hundred with consecutive sixes off Ravi Jadeja.
