New Zealand v India, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the second ODI, New Zealand v India, 2013-14

15-Apr-2015
At Hamilton, January 22, 2014 (day/night). New Zealand won by 15 runs (D/L). Toss: India.
A game already reduced to 42 overs was halted with three balls to go: set 297 by Duckworth and Lewis, India were adrift when the rain returned, despite fluent half-centuries from Kohli (78 off 65 balls) and Dhoni (56 off 44 after promoting himself to No. 5), plus a 22-ball cameo from Raina. Southee's haul of four included his 100th wicket in the format. New Zealand's innings was again anchored by Williamson and Taylor but, as at Napier, it was Anderson who captured imaginations, this time mowing 44 from 17 balls, including five sixes. Had Dhawan's catch at long-on not prevented a sixth, Anderson would have equalled Sanath Jayasuriya's record for the quickest one day international fifty. His fourth six was caught one-handed by Waikato University student Jatinder Singh in a mosh beyond the deep midwicket boundary, earning Singh $NZ100,000 in a promotion by Tui beer. Anderson later chipped in with three wickets, though at some cost. Defeat meant Australia replaced India at the top of the rankings.
Man of the Match: K. S. Williamson.
